Our piggy, Poppy, is not well. Noticed last Wednesday-8 days ago- that she was not hungry or pooping in the morning and seemed a bit bloated. She is a house-piggy, aged 4.5 years.
Took her to our local vet straight away, who fully checked her over, and he gave her 3 jabs to help with bowel movement and an anti-inflammatory, and said he thought it was bloat/colic/constipation, and to bring her back the next day for progress. Went back, tummy even more bloated, on Thursday. Gave her the same 3 jabs in one again. Thursday night seemed perkier, started to poop and eat, tummy went down a lot. Passed about 120 pellets by next morning. Took her back to check progress and seemed more subdued and not eating much again. His colleague repeated the jabs after examining Poppy and said come back Monday to check progress. Went back Monday, having eating little over the weekend compared to normal, and produced about 200 poops, much smaller in size than normal. Gave me more sachets of pro-biotic to give her in her water- ongoing from last Wednesday.
By Wednesday, still not eating much. She is walking/running around as normal, and very affectionate, just not eating much, and is losing weight. She was a bit chubby to start with. Saw the initial vet again. He examined her again- fifth visit, already- and said she looked fine. Tummy felt normal, teeth and eyes and ears all ok, still passing small poops, coat shiny. Everything ok, apart from not eating, which is vital. Gave her an anabolic steroid injection to boost her appetite. Since coming home has eaten very little. Still drinking water as usual and moving around ok etc. Have now been feeding her baby food through a small syringe he gave me, just in case appetitie did not come back. Suggested I take her back to see him on Friday, if no improvement. I am sooo worried. What do I do next? Many thanks.
