Boris (my guinea pig) has been itching a bit more recently with dandruff, so I bathed him with Anti-Fungal shampoo as I suspected a fungal infection however whilst I was rinsing his fur I noticed brown spots in his hair (in a large number of areas) that I couldn't remove, and after some research I suspected hay mites so I am buying Beaphar spot on for guinea pigs tomorrow (containing ivermectin), so anyone with experience know if this works for this particular mite and if so do the suggested directions work or is more then one application needed?

Thank you!

Yes sounds like hay mites. I have the same at the moment.

Your better with xeno450, you can get it from your vets whom will weigh your piggy. I actually recommend buying, if your not using it some gorgeous guineas shampoos, they are great.

Try lotions and potions, however you can't treat piggies with both fungal shampoo and invermicin treatment within 48 hrs.
The general shop bought stuff is quite weak.

Forgot to say, if it is hay mites you won't need invermicin, just use the shampoo treatment, I think it's a week apart, or 5 days, the shampoo comes with instructions.

Hello can I please ask. I've never reply seen my piggies scratch since I got them early November, however the last few weeks I have noticed them scratching and wondered about hay mites. I this a common problem?

Thank you! I was just wondering when I can bathe him with the Lice 'n easy or Johnsons Insecticidal shampoo as I just bathed him this evening and I've heard too much bathing causes issues! When is the earliest that I can bathe him to treat the lice/mites?
