I've never experienced this in gpigs before but have read about the signs.

The thing with my pig is, he has no discharge, not sneezing, his eyes look fine - he's eating fine, drinking fine, running around, acting fine. The ONLY thing I've noticed is his breathing has gone funny twice in the past week - I notice because right now I'm at home a lot and am with him almost 24-7. It goes quite rough and then he does a cough and it goes normal again. Would that be URI? I had start putting him out in the run when it's been quite sunny days, so don't know if they can get URI's from the weather or not.

If there's any doubt in your mind, then a visit to the vet is the only answer.

Well, this is why I was asking about if baytril would still be ok - as I know if it is a URI they'd tell me to give him baytril. And I think due to him having no other symptons the only thing they could possible do is listen to his heart which could also be fine. I don't have any money at the moment as i have no job or income. I spent £300+ on him a few months ago when I did have a job so it's not like I'm not willing to spend out on my pets health, but I don't want to simply just throw the money I don't have at vets for nothing or for them to just tell me what I already know.

Has he lost any weight? When you say breathing is rough - how do you mean?

he's constantly eating. I don't weigh him regularly but he is a little fatty. He eats all his veg, he has his face in his pellet bowl a lot in the evenings and munching hay when he's not napping. Also drinking normally too. So he seems well in himself.
It's really difficult to explain the noise. At first I thought he was just doing it as a guinea pig noise. But then I picked him up and it got quicker as he was a bit panicky. Then when he did a single cough he stopped making the noise. It was a short sound along with the breathing, but as I picked him up and he was breathing quicker it was a bit more raspy. I don't know how to explain it really. If I hear it again maybe I can get a video.
He does live alone but he has a neighbour (his old cage mate whom he hates). The neighbour often does little coughs, I took him to the vets about it before and they couldn't find anything wrong with him. I think he just chokes himself sometimes with food etc - and I mean I took him to the vets wayyyy months back in Sept or Oct, so if those little coughs were anything it would have affected him by now. But he doesn't do the weird noise Han does.

Ok I just googled a bit and found this forum entry (hope it's ok to link it). It's got a vid of some ones pig making a similar noise Han did. They call it 'hooting'
A bit of Hans background - he was bought from pets at home last summer. I only had him a couple of months and he had abscess problems. He underwent two ops and daily flushing. He also got a post op infection. He was mostly on baytril and always had pro-biotics after that, but I managed to get him on zithromax for the post op infection. It took quite a long time to treat him for all that. He also had to be removed from his cage mate. I've tried a few times to re-introduce them but they just don't get along. Around the time I was getting him to the vets, I noticed he and his cage mate had lice which I also got treated and I haven't found any since so thats all cleared.
