Hello,

One of my Guinea pig’s was neutered just under a week ago. After a day or so of him being off his food he went pretty much back to normal. However over the course of the last 24 hours he has started squealing in pain while pooping or peeing.

he is still eating and drinking as normal and still popcorns and gets excited for veg and while his cage is being cleaned. Also his wound does not appear to be infected, inflamed or bleeding.

I have contacted the vet who completed the surgery and they have explained that this is not that uncommon and says that as long as he is eating and drinking as normal that I should not worry and just continue to monitor for any signs he may be deteriorating.

Is this correct or should he really be seen by a vet in person to assess?

This guide should help you with what is normal recovery after neutering.
It’s possible that this is not connected to his operation. If it were me, I’d feel happier knowing my piggy had been seen.

Ensure you weigh your piggy regularly (lifelong weekly weighing as a matter of routine, but daily where you have concerns over their health), as hay needs to be the largest part of their daily food intake and you can’t tell that they are in fact eating enough of it by eye.
