Any advice please?

One of the RSPCA foster pigs (Georga) we collected on Sunday doesn't appear to be eating much (if at all!) It very difficult to see if the veg is disappearing, dry food looks untouched and even her water bottle doesn't seem to be going down. ?/

She's very timid and jumps at the slightest sound. If she does venture out of her house it's to shred the newspaper from the bottom of the cage and we're not really sure if she's eating that!

Her sister (Tilda) seems fine, still a little nervous but settling well. She joins in the wheeking when she hears our piggies and is starting to come to take greens off us through the bars.:)

Is Georga still settling in? Or should I be concerned? :(

Do you know how far along she is in her pregnancy? Could she be due now? It may just be the stress of moving and possibly a change of food. Wait until tomorrow and see how she is doing then.

Don't know how far along! But the vet thought she wasn't as far along as her sister who is very large, and who is feeding and drinking well! Will check bowls again in the morning, to see if she eats while we're in bed! :...

How long has it been she hasn't been eating? Does she seem ok in herself?

My first thought was toxaemia, but she'd probably go downhill very fast with that . . . so maybe not.

Are you weighing her daily in order to seewehther she's losing weight? It can be just sheer nerves from the changed surroundings.

Toxaemia appears usually only in very pregnant/nursing sows.

Thanks everyone!

I took photos on my phone of her food last night, so I could compare it to this mornings! She has definitely had a little of the veg over night, hard to tell about dry food! Water doesn't seem to be going down!

There are plenty of poos around, which seem normal! She seems alert enough from inside her house and she can certainly move quick!

She only arrived at the RSPCA on Sunday, we collected her, then had her weighed at the vets on Monday, but not since. She is so nervy, I didn't want to stress her out even more by keep getting her out, but should I start weighing her everyday just to be sure?

Unfortunately it is very stressful for piggies to move house, so twice in a few days has probably upset her, esp. as she's pregnant too. We don't move pregnant sows if it can be avoided.

She'll probably settle down. I wouldn't weigh her daily unless you are really worried she's not eating. Even a normal pig will sometime not eat or drink much for a day or two after a move.

Tempt her with grass or whatever and hay, to keep her guts going. Let us know how you get on

Thanks Sophie!

Will keep tempting her! I feel for her and her sister, they haven't had a good life so far! Just hoping all goes well with the babies and a good home is found for everyone!
