I thought I would update you on Princess and Kitty. Their original thread is here

http://www.theguineapigforum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=77281

There are some pretty grim photos on there so be warned.

Well they are getting better - slowley but they are. Here are some photos taken about a week ago so they are a bit better than this again.

Princess's back getting better

And Kitty's wounds

And because they deserve some proper photos here they are looking more like proper guinea pigs doing their most favourite thing

And their little bandages

Thanks for looking!

Although they still look so sore they do look much better. You have done wonders with them. They are such pretty little girls. I really hope they are not in so much pain. Are they still crying?

Not much no. If they scratch and catch themselves through thr bandage then yes. Princess tonight has bandaged feet no tubigrip and she's crying a bit but she;s not doing any damage

Well that sounds like they are feeling much better. Did you find out who let them get so bad? The person really should be punished.

Thankyou for sharing the photos. It's upsetting to look at but it really does drive home why we should support rescues. You need spaces and funds to be able to help piggies like these.

Kitty and Princess are still beautiful though. Sending lots of gentle kisses for them both. xx>>>xx>>>

I can't believe how bad those wounds look before :( they look better than they did though now. How do people let them get in such a state?

You know it beggars belief how people can let animals get like that. To let them get like they were when they came in would have taken weeks / months maybe and someone or someones would have been at home going about their business while these two suffered enormously.

I am pleased that the vet rang me to bring them to the rescue as I suppose they could have just put them to sleep and they ARE getting better. Most of the time they go about life like any other pig. For about a week they really did suffer but it eased up and they came back. yes they aren't all better yet but they are MUCH better than they were I think you'll agree.

Yes rescues do need support and awareness, I have been very quiet as a rescue recently due to a very hard personal year that knocked me off my feet but I haven't stopped running the rescue - just stopped being so public about it. These girls are bringing the rescue back into the public eye and raising awareness for what we do and I am very grateful to them for that.

poor piggies :(

but they do look so cute in there little healing jumpers :D

what happened?

what in the world happened to those poor babies? what causes such damage? I am new here,so if you have explained, please forgive me. thank you for helping those poor babies!

I couldn't say it better so I quoted it. Now I'll have to bring myself to go read the original thread. I thought my two were bad off in their beginnings with me, but that is NOTHING like what you have there. Thank you so much for tending to their needs.

Read the original thread; I'm flabbergasted. If Sal proves to have mites on his exam on Friday, I will think that perhaps he was put in my path to save him from such a condition as those two developed.

RE: The itching - - not being all that familiar with guinea pigs just yet, would an oatmeal bath help? It has been prescribed for me when I had crazy-making itching from allergies or contact dermatitis. The easiest way is just to take the rolled oats (a handful, a cup, whatever) from the box and mush it up in water until the water is milky, and then strain the oats out with a tea strainer and soak the affected body part (in this case maybe the whole pig) in the solution.

The other thing that helps me is diphenhydramine cream; it's an antihistamine.

God bless those poor little piggies and God reward you greatly for what you are doing for them.

They have gotten a case of mites that went untreated and got worse and worse making them scratch and bite at their skin causing these injuries. To get like this would have takes ages. ALWAYS treat any hairloss or dandruff however minor it seems.

I just really can't get my head around why people would do such a thing to any defenceless creature :/
At least we can look on the bright side that they are making progress :) Let us know how they do xx

Anyone who wants to follow their story long term or any of our other rescue pigs please feel free to go here and have a look.

We have had some excellent results rehabilitating poorly pigs that come to us and of course some real sweeties for adoption.

Sadly our comments section is all spam so you can't leave a comment I will see via the site but our facebook page is always somewhere to post comments directly to us about the pigs we look after and rehome.

Maybe see you there :)

They are looking so much better now, hopefully by Christmas their skin will be all healed and their fur will be grown back. You have done a great job, god bless you.x>>

Aw, they are in fantastic hands and well done :))
Poor little devils :(
Sorry, but makes me want to throw acid or something at the people who let them get into this horrendous state and see what pain feels like :)>>>

No, no, no, an eye for an eye will do here, just infest them with mites (scabies comes to mind) and do not allow them to be treated and make the itching so bad that scratching does not relieve and only makes it worse, and of course don't forget the infection.

Those poor piggies, those pics made me cry :( I can't believe people are so horrible to let their pets get like that grrrr

I'd like to donate something for their care, I don't have a reputable rescue near me sadly so my piggies aren't rescue ones, but I still like to help out rescues by donating when I can. I got paid today so would like to do something it won't be much I'm afraid but hopefully will help a bit. What's the best way to help you? (food, donation etc?)

Thank you for saving them, what a great job you are doing with them :)

Yes Totally agree Pat.

As they are going to be staying here indefinitely now as hey may have further issues with their skin you could always sponsor them - they don't yet have any sponsors. You can do that on the rescue website. Alternatively they LOVE burgess pellets and hay - donations of either would be just as gratefully received for them, you decide and thanks :)

Oh my word the poor little loves! I brought myself to looking at the original thread and its so shocking to think that someone would put a pet through that, makes me think it must be a case of being left at the bottom of the garden without any love to avoid the crying :( So glad they are improving so much

lisa was going to say put microporous tape on their back toes like little booties change it every 2 days and check the feet isnt damp, this worked wonders for fungal rodney as i found the air needed to get to the open sores to dry them up, you can also dip the booty feet in to aloe Vera so they will be rubbing this into their wounds x

I just read the original thread, omg it made me gasp out loud!

How the **** anyone could let them get that bad! Sorry about the beeped out swear word but thats how mad I feel.

To hear them in agony must have been so heartbreaking for you Lisa, I am so glad they found you and are now on the mend thanks to your love and attention.

My 8 send healing vibes and I send you a massive (((hug))) THANK YOU.

this is truly shocking, i'm so glad they are getting the care they need now.

Hi Lisa
This story made me cry. I tried to sponsor them on your website yesterday - did it come through with paypal?
Wish I could do more x

These two darlings have been back to the vet today as they just wont stop itching! He has given them a steroid injection to help find out the cause of the itching, if the steroids work they will work quickly and could indicate an immune illness that could be lifelong. They will be going back soon for a skin scraping to see if they have a resistant type of mite that would be treated with a different product.

I hope today's injections help ease the itching which must be driving them mad!

The vet was very pleased with their progress and he said the likelyhood of it being the immune disease is rare.

just read this thread8... poor little piggies.... at least they have you now:(|) i hope the vet is able to stop the itching for them... lots of piggie licks from my 8:)p
