Hi,
My 2yr old boar Llew has quite soft poos at the moment. I've cut out all veggies, they're both just having hay and pellets.

I bought some Pro C to support his system but not sure how much to syringe? I dont want to add it to the water in case it puts them off.
I can get the concentration correct (50 ml water: 1/4 scoop of powder)
But how much of it should i syringe feed him every day?

Thanks for any help!

Catherine

I would probably just give him around 10ml to start with and then If he wants to take more give him some more. You can keep giving him a couple of mls through out the day.
I find my pigs quite like probiotic water and will tug on the syringe for more. If he has soft poops one of the better probiotics is fibreplex as It has loads of fibre in to refirm them, you can get it online and I think some vets will stock it, it isn't very palateable for them I've found and mine will try and spit it back out but it is brilliant for soft poos if you can get them to take it.

I agree I would stick to a small amount throughout the day too, 10ml every 4 hours or so. I also find the pro c powder doesn't stop my pigs drinking so you could put it in the water bottle, the fibreplex stuff they aren't as keen on for some reason so I use pro c for general use without any problems :)

I put mine in the water bottle - they love it. I have yet to come across a probiotics that piggies don't love! It's one scoop per 200ml, so the number of scoops depends on the size of the bottle. Make sure that you thoroughly clean the bottle each time you re-fill. Probiotics contain 'good' bacteria, but these can quickly become 'bad' bacteria if left for too long.

Don't be alarmed if it turns the water green. It contains chlorophyl to aid absorption.

Great will give him some more. I have a 1ml syringe and that seems an awful lot, Llew's so grumpy he doesn't even like cwtches so trying to syringe fluid is a task!
Thanks so much for everyones help :)

I give Minky Bio-Lapis probiotic & it states the same mix. Because the solution has to be used in 24 hours & there's no way she'll drink 50ml of it a day even though she does like it, I mix a 1/4 of the dose to 12ml of water & give her 6ml at breakfast & the other 6ml at tea. Minky gets hers just before her veggies. Minky's got head tilt & is long term on Baytril & these amounts seem to be just right. I also give her 1ml of Fibreplex each morning which helps to stimulate her gut.
