Hi there,

Some of you might have seen my previous thread. Our pig Ginger has just had a mamary tumor removed yesterday.

She came home lst night and so far I am pleased to say she seems absolutely fine, went straight for th food.:))

I have a couple of questons. She's on Baytril 0.25ml twice a day. Seems a bit low to me, what do you think?

Also my boyfriend went to pick her up at the vets (I had to work unfortunately) and even though I gav him a list of questions to ask - did he? NO {:|

Anyway, she's not been given any pain killer, she doesn;t seem to be in pain but I would have thought I would get given some just in case - especially given that the vet knows that we have traveled over 1.5 hour to get o him so I can't just pop back in..!

Last questons, he didn't prescribe pribiotics. Even though I told my BF to ask for it.mallethead what is it with men not wanting to ask questions!
She's eating fine etc.. but can i buy probiotics from somehwre other than the vets? I'd like o give her some anyway to be on the safe side. I know thst sience recovery has probiotics in it, could I use this instead?

Thanks in advance

Lx

My vet always prescibes Fibreplex (for rabbits). It seems good to me.

i always use Avipro Plus and got it from Amazon, my pigs love it!

Hope your baby ok.

Boyfriends are rubbish, they never do what they are meant to!! :p

You can get probiotics from most pet shops, and I would definitely use them. 0.25 ml twice daily sounds ok. I have a pig who is on 0.6ml daily and she is a big pig, so sounds ok, but I'm sure the medics can confirm dosages. xx

0.25ml bayril is 6.25mg (providing youve been given the 2.5% solution), depending on how much your piggie weighs that sounds fine to me, its 5-15mg per Kg so that should be well in the range and there shouldnt be much need for a high dose.

Hope shes recovering well.

Another post op question pse

Well Ginger seems to be recovering well. She is eating pooping all fine etc...

At the moment I have separated her from her cage mates. I have a 2 level C&C so separation was also to stop her from climing upstairs and lying in the hay loft to limit the risk of infctiones etc... (I have put her on white towels).

Does anyone know how long I need to keep them separated? After how long is the wound healed enough that the risk of infection goes away.

Thanks

Lx
