hello!
I've got two new boars, Simon and Grr... and had gotten one paw's nails clipped on each on Sunday... I just managed to get the rest of their nails done!
Seems silly, but these are my first ever guinea pigs, and it definitely seemed daunting to do. (My dog wears down her nails on her outdoors time, my parrot trims her own claws, my snake doesn't need much maintenance at all, so pet nail clipping isn't something i'm used to doing).

Welcome to the forum and well done!

Doesnt seem silly at all. We advise new owners and people with squirmy piggies to do them in several sittings. Makes it much easier and less likely for accidents to occur in short more relaxed sittings, than one long battle !

Well done! :yahoo:
I remember it feeling like a huge achievement the first time I did our new piggies nails.

Welcome.
I always think nail clipping is a huge achievement so well done to you (and your boys).

Congratulations! I still can't do my two's nails after two and a half years! I tried with Biscuit recently and managed a couple of nails - not even a whole paw - before she decided she'd had enough. But Toffee - he's impossible! He's so wriggly and slippery - it's like trying to hold onto a bar of soap in the bath! Even the vet nurse has trouble with him. And to make things worse he's got black nails so I wouldn't know how much to cut off even if I could hold him still enough.

Well done and welcome
I still struggle with my boars they hate nail clipping - I try to do one foot of Geoff and Bobby at each weekly weight in - seems better for us all 😂

Well done! My boys hate nail clipping. Like many others I may get a foot done at a time. One of them squeals when the scissors come out. Drama 🤣

Good job, well done! It’s very daunting the first few times but it does get easier

thank you everyone!
New cage coming in today, going to get to set that up over the weekend!

It really helped me to watch a few videos first. And Simon has some black nails too, so it was a bit of a guess, lol. What worked for me was to put them on the table, and hold them against my chest. It gave them comfort and stability.

One of my previous girls had one black foot and, thankfully, three white feet (though she was almost all black otherwise). I used to start with the white feet and let that dictate how much could be clipped from the black foot.

If you have a second person, that's really helpful, as you have two hands for holding, a hand for the clippers, and a hand for tootsie handling.

Welcome to the forum.
Well done getting the nails clipped.
I had one very wriggly piggy who always ended up with one nail cut to the quick and dunked in a dish of cornflour.
