Rose punctured her eye Saturday/Sunday morning and we took her to our local vet who put her on septrin, metacam and eye drops and said to give it a week to see if the eye needs removing.

Just got home and her eye is a lot worse. It looks like the eye is filled with blood. The centre is cloudy but everything else is dark red. I have an appointment at 6:15 will they remove her eye tonight?

I have no experience of such a severe eye injury. Am I overreacting? Is it as bad as it looks? I have no idea what's normal. I tried to get a picture but it's difficult.

The puncture is at the edge so cannot be seen well, but it's had a bulge since day one and this bulge is now kinda black.

Will they remove the eye tonight, do you think? Is there likely to be pressure building? Will they do something to release that tonight if they don't operate tonight?

I'm in such a state. I desperately wanted Simon to do the surgery, I don't fully trust my local vets.

They are removing her eye tomorrow. I can't even go with her to drop her off as I'll be at work. I'm really worried about the surgery.

I hope all goes ok, there really was nothing else you could do if the pressure was building up like that. You could always get Simon to check her over next week after the op?

The op went well and she's now in recovery. Just hoping now that she'll eat so that they can let her come home - she's a very nervous piggie and doesn't like to eat when she can hear people are around!

glad the op went well. must have been so worrying. fingers crossed she continues to do well x

:D Good to hear that she came through the op okay. That eye did look very nasty. It could not have stayed in. Don't worry. Piggies get along fine with just one eye! :tu:

Poor Rose didn't bounce back from the anaesthetic like my other two did. She was very groggy and spaced out last night. I've had to syringe feed her as well, but she has pooped (a lot!) and seems a bit brighter this morning. She looks very lopsided at the moment as they shaved half her face!

Poor baby! I hope she makes a quick recovery for you! Sometimes if they give them pain meds with the op, they are very spaced out for the day. When Sundae had a major abscess drainage on her face that involved cutting through some muscle fibers to get to the bottom of the abscess, the vet gave her a demerol shot and I couldn't pick her up for hours... she came through the op okay but was too stoned to eat/walk without falling over, etc. Even when I brought her home in the evening she was obviously high as a kite! She improved a lot by the next day, so hopefully Rose will do the same for you!

I'm beginning to think the recovery is actually worse for us piggy parents - there's such a huge relief when we're told surgery went well but then comes days and days of worrying whilst our pigs get back to normal!

Totally get what you're going through at the moment x

Poor girl. Eye injuries can turn very nasty very quickly, but many piggies seem to do well after having an injured eye removed. She is lucky to have you being so attentive and looking after her every need.

Sending Rose and you lots of love. x

Thank you for all the well wishes :) Rose had her post-op checkup today, and the wound is healing well. We're still a bit concerned about her eating, but we think that may be down to her timidness rather than discomfort, and we have the okay to let her friends, Peri & Martha visit her to cheer her up!

Aww poor little baby :(
Hope she continues to recover well.
Looks like the other two know not to be on her poorly side.

Speedy recovery from the girls &I. Xx

I hope a visit from her girlfriends lifted her spirits. Healing wheeks from my 4
