Alrighty, I seem to have gotten myself into a bit of a pickle. To make a long story short, a cat won't stop meowing at my door so I let him in. Just to cover all bases, The cat has had no contact with the guinea pigs and extreme care is being taken to quarantine this new little stinker I got. I am currently putting up fliers to see if this little guy has got an owner and it just got lost. Okay so here is my problem, I kinda love him. So if he is not claimed, I am considering keeping him. HOWEVER, my OTHER two little stinkers are my priority. I want to ensure that the guinea pigs will not have any reduction in quality of life if I decided to keep the cat. So my question is what preliminary precautions should I take to ensure that this new cat wont cause any problems for the guinea pigs. If it just isn't reasonable, its not the end of the world, I would make sure the cat finds a good home. BUUUT again, kinda love him. Unfortunately I dont have an large enough place to have the cat not be in the same room as the guinea pigs without confining him to something that I would consider too small.

Hmmm. I would make sure that cat isn’t left alone in the room with the piggies. And that the piggy cage has a lid and is such that the cat can’t get its paws in between to reach the piggies.

If you can’t keep cat out of the room when you’re not there then I’m not sure what else you can do. Hopefully someone with both can come along and help you.

Hi! Are the cages safe enough that the cat can't get into them and stick their paw through in your absence?
