Question About Males And Females Living As Neighbours

This may be a stupid question, but can an intact male live in a neighbouring c and c cage to 4 unspayed females(there would be a lid on both cages)? Is there any chance that he would be able to impregnate the girls through the grids? I am asking, just in case for whatever reason my boy couldn't be neutered, could he could live next to my girls for company? or would that be too stressful for him or the girls?

I wouldn't risk it, the urge to mate is very strong.

Could cause upset or drive him to distraction.....
