Junior Guinea Pig
Hi, been working the last few months to get rid of supposed ringworm on my two girls (but one in particular, the other only ever had some spores in her coat). We used malaseb shampoo many times and each time f10ed and washed fabrics at 60°. It still persisted so finally we did a 6 week course of itrafungal, with a bath at the end so any spores would be out of their fur, and again disinfecting everything with f10.
One of the girls is still showing green flourescent ears and on her nose. The vet was kind of mystified because her ears look perfectly fine in normal light, no crust or scabs or anything out of ordinary. Its only when its under the black light it shows light green. And the other pig was completely free of it.
They never had any bald patches or scabs, only symptom was itching (not even her ears though), and me and my mum who handled them daily even before we knew they had it never got any ringworm ourselves. So I'm kinda questioning if it is even ringworm..could it be a less harmful fungus that for some reason itrafungal didnt kill?
Dont know what else to do apart from bath them every month for the rest of their lives in antifungal shampoo and possibly never be able to introduce any other pigs in case they catch it too? Will be discussing at vets again this week but last time even though he saw some on the ears he was unsure about it and said they would probably be fine, didnt know how to move forward when we already did the full course of itra..
