I’m being paranoid I’m sure. I’m not sure if Mary is okay, She’s bright, alert eating and drinking but seems to be less active (I noticed 7pm last night, it’s now 8am).
And when I touch one ear she shakes her head. But hasn’t got a head tilt nor does she seem to be itching it when in her cage. She also isn’t liking being touched around her backend, But she never is very keen on it! Maybe possible UTI? She I’m my lap now I’m hoping she’ll pee. But I should be leaving for work right now.
I have left over Metacam, is it safe to give some to Mary even when I’m not sure she’s ill ? I’d take her straight to the vet if it wasn’t for work. I’m going to be worried sick all day. I hardly slept last night either.

I have no knowledge or expertise in pigs but I do in humans and I’m quick to give pain relief if it feels right. My babies couldn’t always tell me what was up so I’d often give pain relief whilst I thought it through.

So personally if I had the medicine and a dose age I would give whilst arranging the vet.

I don’t think a dose of Metacam will hurt her either way and if she’s in pain or feeling poorly then you might see an improvement

I think you are being paranoid, Dot hates her back end being touched, most pigs do, and she shakes her ears when they are being touched. Don't worry, just keep an eye on things, if she doesn't start being more active. I honestly can't see anything to worry about in what you have written, other than the not moving around as much 👍

Thank you so much for the quick responses.
My anxiety seems to be through the roof the past 2 days. And this has just made me feel sick. She’s happily eating hay and now waiting for pellets as I done the ‘pellet time sqweak’.
I think she’s perhaps in season as she’s let Patrick hump her a few days ago maybe she’s just feeling off?

I’m going to give her a small does of metacam and dash off for work. Going to ask my friend to pop in and check on her in a few hours.

Animals!

I do agree with @SkyPipDotBernie in the fact that it is totally normal for them to not like ears or back end being touched. I certainly wouldn’t be thinking that as a sign of a UTI.
Being less active is obviously something to keep an eye on but again, it may be that she is just having a lazy day rather than being ill. It is something to keep an eye on but I'm not seeing anything alarming in this as of yet. Keep a check on her weight to ensure she is eating enough but I don’t think I’d be overly concerned at this point.

When Dot used to come into season, she would go grumpy and lay about more, but she's a spayed girl now since May 2018. Anxiety is viscous, always makes you think the worst. Take care, keep us posted 🙂

Thank you so much everyone! You’ve definitely helped me breath and feel less worried. I’ll keep a close eye on her over the next couple of days. I may book her a vet appointment for Thursday just to be on the safe side..

hopefully it’s just Mary’s season then making her a bit sleepy and touchy.
Thanks so much for your reassurance. Fingers crossed nothing is wrong with Mary. She’s one of those resilient, tough, stubborn, no drama but happy piggies that eat no matter what And just gets on with life, so just these slight off things I'm noticing makes me worry... and the fact I have anxiety for no reason lol.
I’m just seen dead roadkill cockatoo, rabbit and kangaroo on my way into work which hasn’t made me feel much better.. :td:

A check up to be safe never hurt, I did similar last week with my Delilah and I'm so glad I did, turns out even though she was just a little quiet and had a fatty lump on her nipple, she had a cyst larger than a golf ball on her right ovary! Glad I listened to my gut, she was spayed today and is doing great. My chronic anxiety has caused me a lot of unnecessary trips to the vet, I will admit, but it has also saved their lives a few times. But everyone has off days remember, even piggies :) chances are it's nothing, but it doesn't hurt to be safe when you get the chance.

Oh wow poor Delilah! I'm so glad she’s recovering well.
How did the vet find the cysts in her oviaries? I only ask as I don’t have an exotic Specialist (I’ve tried and tried) but I have found 2 lovely vets whom I feel I can trust with my pigs. I feel like if like Mary to be checked for cysts, do they just feel them? Or do they need an x-ray?
Yes I too have had anxiety induced trips to the vet. Good old anxiety :))

Yeah he just feels for them, all the piggies ive taken for cyst concerns have just been palpated, once he had got hold of it you could see it really clearly! Mine aren't exotic vets either, but they're situated in a chain store pet shop so they see a lot of piggies as they treat the stores piggies too.
Yup, good old anxiety! Kept me up all night worrying about the surgery last night so syringe feeding tonight is going to be fun 😅 but I'm hoping she won't need it, she's already eating really well by herself.

I shake at the vets and get stomach ache, everytime, it's from bad experiences before. The vets are brilliant, but it's from when I've had terminally sick pigs before and it just brings back that feeling. It's the smell of that f10 spray, and the waiting room silence. I hate it with a passion

Yes I understand  I still can’t get my head around losing my precious Spike a few months ago. I never want to step foot in the practice again.

It does hurt, maybe that's what's causing you to worry. Maybe not but could be

I’m quite certain it has bought on a lot of my anxiety about animals being sick. I feel quite responsible for Spikes death by seeing such a crap vet nurse.
I’ve just booked Mary an appointment for Thursday, I’m seeing a lovely vet whom dealt with Opal a month or so ago (runny poops, I was being paranoid again lol!). BUT this time she’s at their other clinic which I have the problem with. At least I’m seeing Dr Rose though, hopefully I won’t catch a glimpse of the vet who Spike saw. Or I’ll just cry.

We have just collided with a bird in our work van and it has shattered half the window 😕View attachment 131162

I feel sorry for that bird🙁
Lots of blood was left all in the glass cracks, and feathers, I feel bad too, I think it was a wood pigeon, we were doing about 70 mph and the bird was flying at high speed across and swooped down at the wrong timing 😕. Atleast it killed it straight away, it must have because that window is dented in where it hit.

Van is off the road now until next week

How is your hair girl today @Hannah_xx

Mary is absolutely fine! I clearly was panicking for no reason:)) She’s more active again, still eating and drinking like a trooper. I was concerned as she wasn’t going up to the loft the past 2 days and she usually loves it up there. But she was up there yesterday having a drink and eating hay. She has lost 100g ish, in a month. Nothing major.

But I think I’m going to keep my vet appointment today and take her in for a heath check.
