8... i've not been able to bring myself to post this all week. i know you guys always like hearing updates, but a lot of hearts have been broken. when poor little wrench became ill, the vet suggested giving him calpol to bring his temperature down. but the next day there was no improvement, so paula (wrench's mummy) took him to a monkey specialist vet in rotheram, who treated him as if he had some kind of infection, but warned her that if it was the herpes virus (from a coldsore) it was fatal to monkeys and there's nothing anyone could do, he offered to test for the herpes virus, but said that she wouldn't get the results for 5 days, and if it was that, he would be dead by then
unfortunately he developed a lesion on his lip, and through the night one of his pupils fixed and dialated, indicating brain trauma. his poor mum phoned me sobbing, but the vet said his meds could cause his pupils to react like that, so we clutched that bit of hope, even though we knew deep down we were losing him. he lasted about 10 more hours and passed away that morning in paula's arms.
it's been a horrible week. his poor family are devastated, and i've lost my little nephew. but there has been so many thoughtful people offering their condolances. this weeks kerrang magazine has even been dedicated to his memory.
they've no idea where he could have gotten the coldsore from, everyone was always so careful about not letting anyone with a cold or coldsore or anything like that near him, but as he was a pet the only way to keep him totally safe would be to lock him i a cage and he might have lived 10 years or more, but i don't think wrench would have chosen that over his 18 months of freedom for any reason. and there is no point torturing ourselves over where it could have come from because we'll never know. this just proves that monkey's shouldn't really be pets.
wrench was always a giddy cheeky little monkey who very rarely got in a strop, but always made sure you knew he was in a mood by biting your ears and running off! haha! anyway, here are some pictures of him that you wont have seen, from him being a baby to now.
