Hi I am just wondering what to do about Rain/Wind. I have got a hutch that has a sleeping compartment above a run. Do you think I should cover it with anything when it rains or is windy. Thanks, Jack.

We use a thick tarpaulin which we got from B and Q for our two rabbit hutches and put it half way down so it covers the top storey of the hutch at night to shield the rabbits from the wind and rain. It was quite cheap, about £7 I think and very large and thick.:)

i also use a thick tarpaulin, very thick and very big, it comfortably covers all my hutches

Yeah I use the same as Nemo, every night whatever the weather, just to be sure they are well tucked up. Mine is a camouflage tarpaulin bought off e-bay. (for my little soldiers!) x

Asking About Bedding

I am just wondering shall I will the sleeping compartment of the hutch half way up so that they can burrow down into it.

About Bedding

Do you think I should half fill the sleeping compartment with hay so they can burrow? :)

Gpigs

If its outside cover it so the hutch dosnt get wet and leak try and put it under cover if you can make sure there warm in the winter and cool in the summer they can easily get heat stroke or catch a chill. Charlotte:)

With my g pigs i put hay in there bed so they can keep warm and snug its a good idea. Charlotte :)

I know it sounds a bit 'soft', but I used to have a large, biggest I could find, golf umbrella attached to the back of the cages, so that when I was out tending to them in the rain they still remained dry when the cover was off (and I was too!) If it was light drizzle the Umbrella would suffice as their shelter to keep them dry, if it was really awful weather then i had some clear thick plastic (bought off the roll to the size required from a hardware store/Band Q place). It was attached to the back of the cage with a staple gun and could be rolled overthe top and the front when required. Attached to the front end of the sheeting was a wodden piece of pole, this helped with the rolling up of the plastic and added weight so the front didn't get blown off the cage. I am lucky enough nowadays to have a fantastic windowed shed that they all live in !

Hi yes i think you should cover it with something so your animals dont get cold otherwise they might get a chill and it will also help your hutch to last longer. Charlotte :):

Thank You Everyone

Thanks everyone I will be getting a cover very soon.

I *ahem* used to use a persian rug... Its not a great rug but my nan was gobsmacked when she saw it... :red

I now use a dog boot guard to cover the front of the wendyhouse for the buns... It cost £10 from P@H and is great... i also use it to cover the top of the rabbits run when it is raining so they can go out whatever the weather...

I have also got the blue tarpaulin from B and Q and wouldnt reccommend that one as it still lets the rain in and doesnt keep any cold air out...
