I found another abscess on Ralfie tonight, it was huge when it burst and it wasnt there this morning, he now has a huge hole which is a lot bigger than the last one. It is right by his bum near where the last one was but on the other side, i flushed it with boiled and cooled water and packed it with the cream he had last time until i can get to the vets tomorrow. He has been on baytril for a URI, conjunctivitis and an eye ulcer for nearly 2 weeks, anyone got any idea how he got an abscess when hes been on baytril? :'( i feel so sorry for my little fella, he has never been well since i got him :( he seemed to cough today aswell which was strange. I have separated him from Sephy (his cage mate) because its not fair on her to leave them together, she keeps getting better then catching things back. i dont know what to do for him :'( how will they treat it if the baytril didnt work? xxxxx

Dam it :tickedoff: :tickedoff: :tickedoff:
Ruddy abscesses >:D >:( >:( >:(

awwwwwww Ralfie you poor little guy :'( :'( :'(
Love they can still get them even on the meds, they're such aggressive things..... but another course of his baytril and maybe something else?
You've done a brilliant job by cleaning etc.. O0 O0 best thing you could've done for him :) :) :)

Sending healing wheeks and loves from us both :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

Thanks Glynis, it just upsets me to see him all on his own trying to get to Sephy. I dont think he can see much either :'( can they stay on Baytril for 3 weeks? I just wish he could be well its so unfair that its always him :( he must be so depressed. I'm scared of him going on a stronger antibioic, he's only just started eating again :'( i thought he was getting better. x

Duke was on baytril for ages, more than the 3 weeks at one stage.... because of abscesses also :tickedoff: :tickedoff: :tickedoff:
Keep up any extra syringe feeds and keep tempting him with all his fave foods... apart from that TLC and get the wound checked out O0
Good luck love (((((HUGS))))) :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

Hi Emma,

Give Ralfie a big kiss from me, hope he is feeling better soon. Are you taking him back the vet?

Hugs,

Louise

Awwwww! Good luck at the Vets O0 Keeping fingers and paws crossed :smitten: Hopefully this'll be an end to his problems poor little fella :-* :-*

Thanks, will be taking him the vets about 3 i think when my boyfriend gets out of uni. He's eaten a bit of veg this morning and his dried food is everywhere so I'm assuming he's had a go of that. Sephy went mad trying to get to him before, she was runnig up and down the divider wheeking like mad :( and Ralfie hasnt made a sound since i separated them :( just hope it is the end to his problems like you say BlackJack :( to top it all off i feel really ill today, been sick and feel really shakey and weak :( x

cuddle up on the sofa and take care of yourself , hope you feel better soon S xx

Oh you poor thing jnenbnb (by the way that's a really strange handle - what does it mean? sorry just being nosey ::)) Hope you feel better by the time of the Vet visit. It's really hard on us too when our piggies are poorly and we do tend to forget to look after ourselves. O0

:) i know my username is stupid, my boyfriend started the account so he thought of it, his names Jay, at the time i only had two piggies Bumble and Bee and my name is Emma, so it stands for Jay n them n Bumble n Bee ::) just call me Emma lol its a lot easier! x

I must admit I had always wondered where your user name came from....I know now ;D ;D

Aha! That's really cute Emma! Love the Bumble and Bee too! I'm rubbish at thinking of names for the piggies.

Me too ;D

So sorry Ralfie is still having problems, poor little chap, it's heartbreaking to see them hurting. At least he has a great piggie Mum to look after him :)

Don't forget to look after yourself too them, hope you feel better soon xx

Thanks Julie, just been in to see him, he was asleep curled up in a pile of hay bless him. He gobbled up his corn on the cob husks and he's just been having a good go of his museli so he is eating but he still sounds quite cheasty and is sneezing so i think he either needs a higher does of baytril to get rid of his URI and the abscess or maybe septrin, not sure how good septrin is for abscesses? On the up side his eyes look a lot better. He still has the energy to rumble at me when i put him back which he's always done :smitten: x

Aww...poor little Ralfie! At least he seems quite happy in himself - eating etc....and he's well enough to have a good rumble session! Just a bit sad he's a bit quiet being separated from Sephy :(

Glad his eyes are looking better!

Hope you get better soon too Emma! O0

Hi everyone, back from the vets. She says his abscess is very deep this time and it look as if it's come from within, rather than him cutting himsef and it getting infected, she said this one will be harder to heal because its so deep. she said its likely that his eyes, his URI and this abscess are linked and she thinks he may have a bacterial infection in his blood :'( she sounded as if she meant there would be nothing they could do if it is in his blood, but i have to admit it makes sense and explains why he's been continually getting different infections :'( his eyes arent better and neither is his URI, shes upped his dosage of Baytril and i'm flushing it and packing it twice a day. Got to go back in a week to see how he's doing. Does anyone know if anything can be done for him if the infection has got into his blood stream? :'( the vet is rooting for Ralfie just as much as us, she loves him and she seemed really sad :( she said definately not to put Sephy back with him. my poor little fella, he seems happy in himself, eating and running round, just not making much noise :( x

Oh Emma, you're having a rough day
(((((((((( BIG HUGS )))))))))) for you and Ralfie
Iread something about packing the wound with something I will see if I can find the thread.
