Hello All,

I have just been making the most of the nice weather and bathing my Pigs. Whilst cleaning Mylo i have notcied behind her what appears to be like a rash. I dont think its ring worm as once had a dog who had this and kindly passed to me. Also its not infected green or smelly, although i think she may of lost a small patch of hair where it is. Generally she is fine health wise.

Does anyone have any ideas what it is?

I dont think it is an infection as its not septic its clean, Could it be fungal or some sort of other parasite? I have just Johnsons insectical shampoo, which should kill any mites, lice or fleas. Does anyone have any other suggestions on what i could use or what it is?

Thanks Andi.

Thanks Becky. I know they all have the patches behind the ear. Looking at it again, i dont think that the patch as increased but on the top it looks looks flaky and the bottom is red almost like a scab has fallen off. Thanks.

Thanks, Yeah it looks similiar to that! i have noticed she has dry skin on her ears but i didnt think any more as i didnt think it was a problem. Have you used anything on yours yet?

Mylo seems ok with it, she as let me touch it with no fuss and she is not scratching it or anything. I think the best bet is to keep a close eye on it and see if i can find some sort some cream for her. If it gets worse i will see the vet, already taking my four bunnies in next week. lol

Thanks for the link to your Guinea it was very useful. Fingers crossed for your little pig. xx

I used a bit of aloe vera gel, like what i use on my daughters eczema, that we get from a health shop, and by the next day the redness had gone..
It seems to be exactly the same as what you explained.. I think on Stevie the scab was from scratching, and he loved having the gel put on, and apart from the very odd scratch hasnt bothered him since.
I'm only taking him to the vets cos the babies are going anyway. I'm not concerned anymore.
thanks xx

oh and i bathed him too! he DIDNT love that! lol x

Thats good, i have some of that will give it go and let you know what happens. The vets i am sick of the site of that place. I am going to have fun with my four bunnies in their next week. Sorry to hear he didnt enjoy the bath. Mine dont seem to mind the water its more when i rub the shampoo in, i try do it gently as possible. Its imbarassing the noise the girls make and all neighbours are out the gardens. x

I thought i was bad! lol
Can i ask, how do you prevent fly strike with your bunnies?
I have booked all four in to have the spray done rather than the spot on.
Bearing in mind only 2 of them live outside the others are house bunnies.
The house bunnies are not even that happy about being put outside! lol
Good luck for you with your 10 bunnies! omg that will be crazy! xx

Ive been getting the spray for the hutches, and they were booked in for the injections.. but Lara gave me 8 surprise babies last week (hence why i have 10 bunnies) so I'm not sure now, as i cant have them while she is nursing.. Its been years since we had rabbits, and we used to get the spot on treatment, but meen told that isnt recommended anymore, and dont want to use the spray now that ive heard a few bad things on that also.. never know what to do for the best.. x

Got me thinking now! lol. I think i will stick to having them sprayed. The vets never even mentioned the spray this time it was me who brought it up. I have a good idea why because it cost £18 for all four of them for the spray where as the spot on is £19 something each! a bit of a difference and to be honest it was the receptionist i spoke to you. The same recptionist who thought netherland dwarf was a breed of pigs! lol.

You mention about the spray for the hutches too, whats this where do you get it from and is it safe? (how many questions)

Oh and one last question do you have pic's of the babies? lol x

is the thread of my babies..
and i think i got the hutch spray from pets at home..
If not there, then it was my local pet shop.
I'm so undecided, cos you hear negatives about all, so i suppose they are probs just about the same.. let me know though! Cos I'm going to have a big expense this time. x

Well mine are going in next Friday. Lets say i always get my monies worth when i go to the vets, they are almost throughing me out at the end! Its funny the politely open the door and ask me to leave! lol will ask about the pros and cons and get back to you on that one.x
