Peanut Butter went in for his monthly dental work yesterday morning. When I picked the boys up as the receptioninst was taking my payment she looked at her computer screen and asked me what was wrong with PB that he has to come in every month. After I explained she asked me "how long to they live?".

I said on average 5 years which means plenty die after 2 or 3 but some live as long as 7 or 10, the world record is 14 and I really hope PB lives to at least 10 and I'm going on and on until I realise she is calculating the cost of his treatment by how long he will live and frowning! I then said, well I could always PTS him or let him die a horrible death with his teeth growing through his mouth and starvation. Well, that startled her - the look of horror on her face! Oh yes, right, she says.

I somehow don't think she is in the right job.

Depressing isnt it, when people in that kind of job dont even realise the value of the animals.

yes defiantly in the wrong job! Why do people assume GP are less worthy of vet care than say such as a dog or cat. It really annoys me.

Oh my god that is shocking! I think you should make a complaint about her.

Be happy she didnt try add a budgie swing to your bill :l our receptionist tried to and tried to make us pay like 8 pound for it! Lucky she saw it and took it off. Silly woman.:)>>>

Thats awful!

Some vets! I've been to two different vets with the boys, finally found this vet through Percy-Roo and my goodness they're amazing, the vet herself has piggies and chickens so didnt raise an eye when i brought thimble that hamster in, and the receptionists are really lovely, when Roo Bear was very ill and struggling to breathe that morning they rushed him in as an emergancy but didnt charge me the emergancy bill as i come in oftern so i find that really lovely that they have a one to one service. :)

The clinic I go to has several vets working there. The one I use, Katherine, is the one that specialises in small animals and I find her very good.

When I did take Hazelnut in once for what I thought was an emergency, I had to use the vet on call. As the boys go in together now for moral support, this vet, on learning they were boys, immediately asked "don't they fight?" mallethead Fortunately, what I thought were 2 scabs on Hazelnut's willy had mysteriously disappeared by the the time he was examined as I no longer felt confident in him being treated by this vet (although now i worry about what was it).

Next month when PB has to see Katherine again I am going to mention about this receptionist. I worry that she may say something very stupid to someone who might be in grief over their pet.

Wow, just a little bit rude! When i was a kid we had a rabbit who needed regular dental (every 2-3 months i think) and there was a certain nurse, who every time we saw her would say to me, not my parents "We could always put her to sleep"

I'd certainly mention her to someone, that was just unprofessional no matter what she may or may not think.

Oh that is an awful thing to say - and to a child yet!

Exactly the sort of thing I am afraid of with the attitude of my vet's receptionist. I will certainly be complaining about her to my vet.
