Raw And Sore Penis

Hi all!

After a routine penis-cleanliness check, my poor little pig, named Piggy, has not been able to leave his nether-region alone. He has been constantly cleaning himself, resulting in a very red and sore looking penis. In fact, he has broken the skin. I should be clear that, other than this, his area is very clean and there does not seem to be anything stuck in it.

I have put on mineral oil, very frequently. I also had him sitting on a cold compress for a few minutes.

Has anyone had experience with this? Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

P.S. I have called my vet and am waiting for a call back. He is on antibiotics for something unrelated, so hopefully will prevent any infection from developing.

I hope that you can find out what caused it - it must be something that irritates or pains him, poor boy!

Could it be something similar to thrush?
I'm pretty sure antibiotics can cause thrush with humans so why not in piggies as well.
Wouldn't doing any harm to see if its possible

Mineral oil is not the best choice for such a sensitive area and it may well be that it is actually irritating the skin and worsening the problem. As a barrier treatment, Sudocream is better - But if the vet thinks there may be a topical infection I have found flamazine cream works very well on sore, cheesy or stinky willies - it contains silver salts so has both antimicrobial and antifungal activity.
