raw beetroot

Years ago when my dh used to keept guinea pigs he said he used to give them raw beetroot and they absolutely loved it! Tried looking for some and haven't seen any anywhere at all. All we can find is cooked beetroot and that's no good. Does anyone give their piggies raw beetroot at all? :))
 
i didn't know you could get raw beetroot so i wouldn't know what it looked like if it came up and bit me :')
 
I've given it from one of those pre packed salad bags, i think it was called Bistro, and had grated beetroot, and red chard leafs etc, very nommy!
 
It is also very easy to grow your own and you can get baby beetroot varieties. I have grown it with the kids in a deep pot, you don't need a veg bed even.

Great idea, me and my girls have grown raddish in pots last year then given the pigs the raddish leaves
 
Tesco do a pack of Organic beetroot for around £1.80 - mine adore it.
Markets sell bunches cheaper or fruit and veg shops on the High Street etc. but make sure you chop all of the leaves off.
 
Morrisons definitely sell it I bought one yesterday rolleyes

Our Tescos don't sell it raw though, only the packaged ready cooked ones. The mixed salad in Morrisons & Asda have beetroot in that's raw as well.
 
beetroot is a really good conditioning food, mine have it about 3 times a week
 
Twiams- it just looks like purple ish bulb with green stalks and a little root on the end. I get mine in asda or off the market. Just chop the top off and the bottom and chop or slice to suit. Mine get some once a week or fortnight, good for absorption of calcium and most seem to like it :)
 
morrisons sell it, in fact a number of pre packed salad have it in grated so I give the bag to the piggies and they eat it all up..
 
Cookie and Treacle say yes to raw beetroot. Megan says no.
 
Mine love raw beetroot. You can get it from veg shops (rarely get raw from supermarkets). Don't be alarmed but it turns there urine and pooop a reddy/pink colour.
 
Got some of that beetroot salad and gave them some today and they seem to like it, well they have eaten nearly all of it so that is something else that they like.
 
Mine love it! I find that supermarkets mostly sell it in bunches of 5/6 beetroots, which is way too many for my gang. So, I prefer to buy it from a market, where you can often buy it by the pound.

If I can't get a whole beetroot, then I feed the bagged salad with tiny matchsticks of beetroot in them.

My lot love it and it's often in the reduced area of our local Tesco.

Make them look like they're wearing lipstick though! :(|)
 
Mine love the wee strips of beetroot in those salads. It's funny how fast the little strands disappear into their mouths :))
