As I am new to the forum I did not know to put a health question on this area(thanks Weibke). Lets see if I can remember what I said.
So my pig, Tiny Tim, has had a swollen foot for some time now. A few days ago my dad was clipping my big pig' s nails. He went to clip another nail, on the foot in question, and when he moved it it popped. Blood started pouring out, at least one ounce from a three pound pig. the blood did not stop until I put pressure on it. He has not asked for food since, but I give it to him anyway and he eats it.
I read a thread about bumble foot and that foot looked like his, except the thread did not mention anything about blood. Please tell m what is going on! I don't want him to suffer.

Please could you post a photo?

Was the blood from the nail rather than the foot? Did he cut the quick?

He needs to see a vet for diagnosis, a photo may help us in the meantime though. It sounds sore and if he is off his food he may be in pain and so will need pain relief.

Here are your pictures. One of him, a few of his bad foot, and one of his other front foot.

It does look very swollen if I am looking at it correctly. I can't quote see the whole picture with the ruler so not sure what that is supposed to be showing. I agree he needs to see a vet as soon as possible though for a diagnosis, can't say from the photos if it is an infection or Bumblefoot. Please ask for pain relief too, it will most likely be something called Metacam which is an anti-inflammatory. How is he walking?

He is walking fine, but the pictures are from after he bled and the inflammation went down with the blood.

Definitely needs to see a vet asap. If it is bumblefoot he will need an aggressive course of antibiotics; it is difficult to treat. Also if he's not eating then he will need supplemented with syringe feeding; it's very important that he keeps eating. Good luck, and keep us posted!

I do not want to sound more demanding than I already have been, but as far as I know Western Pennsylvania does not have many guinea pig vets. Sorry for making this more difficult.:(

I also live in Western Pa! Where are you located? I use rainbow vet in Darlington. They are excellent.

Thank you all for your help! I will do some more research on your ideas but have no new information for you about Tiny Tim's foot. it looks so much better after he bled , so mabey the problem is in the past.:D

Look for a vet that specializes in exotics and small animals/rodents. Yes, guinea pigs are considered exotic pets! I'm from Canada, and though there are not a lot of vets who advertise as 'guinea pig vets' most exotic vets have a good working knowledge of them and they don't cost any more than a regular dog and cat vet to access in most cases.

things may look alright to you but unfortunately we can't talk or read animals minds (that would be great) he could still be in a great deal of pain and since they're small animals the tiniest things can be fatal . i wish him the best and highly advise going to a vet it would be in his best interest. things may look fine but you never know what's going on in his head. good luck!

I have to agree. I know a few good vets depending on where you're located. Pittsburgh area has Animal General; they are really trained in exotics. Rainbow Vet in Darlington is awesome; Dr Scheming took care of my pig's toe abscess, and they're open 24/7! There is a pricier one in Beaver who do good work, and another closer to Erie. You have options! Please take him, he can't do it himself... How would you like your foot to look like that? Sorry if I sound harsh.

What is the name of the Erie vet(do not worry if you sound harsh if it gets the point acrost)? That may be within driving disdance. If that does not turn out I will check out some exotic vets. Tiny Tim has started asking for food again so that seems to be a good thing.

Camboro Vet in Edinboro. It's right off the Edinboro exit on 79; right in the Walmart plaza. They were able to treat Piglet's ringworm, and Roger's sprained foot with xrays without sedation, which is always good in my book! Here's there website: http://www.camboro.com/

Apparently they do all kinds of animals; the website even says sugar gliders and ferrets, etc. I can't remember the doc's name who treats the exotics (I haven't lived up there for about 5 years, and the pigs were babies when they went), but he did a good job. Good luck, keep us updated!
