Readigrass?

I give my piggies Timothy Hay and I saw some people give their piggies readigrass. Is this an alternative to timothy hay?
Also, which hay is the best to feed them, because I saw 'Meadow Hay' the other day, and I'm wondering if that would be any good.

So would you recommend it? Just I can't buy a bag smaller than 1kg and if they don't eat it it'll be a waste.

I have a big bag and it will last me years. Bertie has a little bit every day or 2. But as he is going on the grass I think he prefers that! Pity you arent up the road and you could try some of mine !

Never seen a piggy say no too it !
I'd recommend it as it's great for putting in those dangling treat balls, and keeps my piggy amused for hours.. plus it's fun to mix in his hay piles in his cage and let him sniff it out !

I think I'll try them on it. If they don't like it I can always give it to the guinea pig boarding place not far from me, or even pass it onto someone else. It would seem a shame to waste it.

Readigrass technically can be alternative to hay but it is not as coarse. Any pigs with dental issues should not have readigrass as an alternative to hay. The best way is to mix the two together with a little more hay than readigrass.

In terms of nutrition, there is little to no difference between meadow hay and timothy hay - especially if it's good quality. Meadow hay is a mix of different grass hays whereas timothy hay is just one specific type.

The main advantage of timothy hay is the sweet smell/taste. Pggies find it much more appetising and so will be less inclined to leave it/only eat when they're hungry in the hope of getting something better.

We general fee "Alfalfa King" timothy hay (not alfalfa hay, that's just the brand name) which is £7.99 for 1.8kg at P@H, or "Oxbow" timothy hay which is a similar price.

We buy "Friendly" readigrass for £3.49/kg from our vet. I'm not sure were else stocks it, sorry

Readigrass isn't dried grass. It's hay grass which is harvested slightly earlier than hay meaning it is still very green. There is nothing wrong with feeding either grass or readigrass to guinea pigs. I'm not sure what you mean by "rich". This is misleading.

Our Piggys have graze on which is the same as Reddigrass and they have a small handful every morning-they wheek like crazy for it!

I buy a huge bag from our local stables for £7 and it last ages without going off.

I don't think a small handful daily is bad for them.
