Hi,

I was thinking of buying some readigrass as the local pet shop has it but because I have never fed it before to Ruby and Titch wanted to ask will it cause gas or bloat like too much grass does?

Any help would be appreciated.:)

It is high in calcium so only used as a treat. I would not bother but you could buy them a different hay instead for a change. :)

I love readigrass for my pigs and buns, they go insane for the stuff. Its cheap tasty and they love it. It has the same phosphorus to calcium ratio as cabbage and spinach so I feed it like I would those type of veggies.

I am in the process of getting some readigrass for my girls because Ellie has lost some weight since having surgery to remove 4 benign tumours not long ago. As she is a small pig anyway, the weight loss makes her seem even smaller. She is eating like a trooper but I'll be happier when she is a little fatter especially as winter is decending.

Not only does readigrass contain calcium, it is also packed with calories so should be fed in moderation :)

My girls are on a low calcium diet so when their readigrass comes, they will have a small handful of that instead of a vegetable containing calcium.

my piggies love it, but my bunny isn't bothered...

Our Piggys have graze-on which is very similar to Redigrass and they love it!

We buy it from a local stables-a really big bag for £7 and it's lasts ages and ages. They have about 3 handfuls a week and eat every scrap.

I was originally put onto it by a Vetinary nurse when our bunny Ollie wasn't pooping properly. Putting him onto science select and graze on cured his problem. She said how good it was for Piggys and their teeth too so when Ollie passed away we carried on buying it for the Piggys.

I have a massive bale of readigrass in my living room! he pigs love it. little minnie sticks her head in a bowl and doesn't come out until she has eaten at least half of it!

i also feed graze on, in the winter months i feed it daily as they do not get fresh grass, i also feed veg daily and unlimited hay, unlike most people i only feed concentrates once or twice a week as a treat and find they do very well on this diet. :)

Hi everyone,

Thank you for your replies.

I put a small amount in a bowl for them and Titch liked it Ruby wasn't ott on it but went back later to it ?/ Some is still there. So I guess I will put a bit in a bowl every other day like others have said.

Many thanks,

Silly.:)

Is it ok to feed the readigrass for horses? Is it the same thing or different?:)

Hi Whispa,

I think it is the same but I suppose it would come in alot bigger quantity or a bale if it is for a horse.

I only put a small bowl in and it has all gone, so I guess they like it.

Silly :)

Thanks! It's because when I type in readigrass it only come up with one that's for guinea pigs and the rest are for horses so I was wondering if it was the same thing.:)

Hi Whispa,

As Amysmom replied it is called graze-on, I will only put it in a couple of times a week as Ruby sometimes leaves white which is calcium deposit and this has calcium in it wouldn't want to give too much calcium.

Silly:)

'Readi grass' is made by spillers, 'Graze on' by northern crop driers and 'Just grass' by dodson and horrell. they are all the same type of product, ie chopped grass that has been quick dried to maximise nutrient retension. all are designed for horses but great for piggies and bunnies in moderation. all come in large bags (bales) but only readi grass is also sold in small bags aimed for the pet market. :)
