REALLY need advice on moving piggies

i have two male 5 month old piggies. my parents have a boat on the river trent and i'm thinking of going down for 4-5 days. I wouldn't go and leave the piggies (obviously!) and someone mentioned bringing them with me in their spare portable cage (quite large). they would be driven down to the boat and kept on a spare bed in their cage, its a large boat so they won't be cramped into a small area.
I really WOULD NOT take them if it were to upset them or stress them out, i will just not go down with them- I don't mind not going if it keeps piggies happy :) so i would really appreciate some advice on whether or not it would be ok? i get the feeling probably not but thought I'd ask at the chance of having a break with my babies too!

I personally wouldn't take them (as much as I would dearly love to!) as moving can stress them out, they often feel they have to re-establish the pecking order and it can usually be discomforting for them.

If it's only for a few days, can you get someone in a couple of times a day to feed, change bedding/water and check up on them everyday instead?
 
ye, i was very unsure and not happy about the idea but thought i'd ask :) ino the thought of having a little holiday WITH my piggies sounded to good too be true lol i might go for less days and get someone to feed them and everything instead.....though i'd miss them :(
 
If you are not going regularly, I would rather leave them at home, if you have the option.

I used to take my two guinea pigs with us to Wales on our monthly visit at moother-in-law's, and they got quite used to that, but it took several trips to establish the pattern.
 
Yes, I know what you mean! I would love to take ours down to Cornwal as soon as we can get back home there, but we have 8 now and don't like to move them unless we are going away for more than a week, then we put them in a trusted boarding place. :)
 
I am doing the same - but good boarding places for guinea pigs are surprisingly hard to find! For just one ore two nights I've got neighbours I can ask.

I am allowed to bring my own cages which we have adapted in a way the my now four guinea pigs can easily get from one to the other while we're away.
