Finally lolas had her babies. I came home at 4.30 and heard a squeeking i took the house off her cage and therewas lola and babies two at the time i think i startled her and she ran so i put the lid back on and left her too it i checked again 20mins later and she had'nt really cleaned one of them so again i left her alone 20mins after that when i checked there was 2 more new additions sadley one was dead. I've noticed now two of them are making a clicking noise and are'nt balanceing very well as the other baby. And lola doesnt seem to be going near the two making the clicking noise xx

oh no, i dont know sorry, i just wanted to say i hope mum and kids are ok.

And my message will bump up your thread.

Good luck x

I really don't know, usually sow's are really good mothers. I say just phone the vets, explain and see what they say. But be calm, I know it's really upsetting I was frantic when my guinea was ill. But you need to stay calm because if you're not, who's going to help them =)

Keep me updates
love lexxx

Aww I have no idea.

Hopefully one of the more knowledgeable members will be along soon to give some advice!

Good luck

its poss they have inhaled some amniotic fluid, human babies can do this to and it normally clears after a few days...

with animals there is a way of getting it off their chest the same way its removed off baby dogs chests when born...

some babies can be off their legs for 24 hours, could you try putting babies near to mum teats?

I'm not that experienced with baby guineas only ever had a few pregs in...

other rescues on here will hopefully be able help morexxx

also if you have a water bottle (warm not hot) can you wrap a towel around it and put it in the cage so it keeps the babies warm?

keep a check on if mum guinea is feeding them! if not you will need some goats milk and lets them lick it off a small spoon every 2 hours and you will need to toilet them, by getting some cotton wool and wetting it, and rubbing it on the babies privates, until it wees and poops, this needs to be done after ever feed that you give them..

but see if you can get mum guinea to feed them first, put the babies under mum...

also can you weigh the babies in grams and post their weights on here so we can see if they are a good weight( may have a meaning as to why the babies are a little off their legs)

and you say your not that experienced! Sounds to me like you doing ok! :))

aww thankyou so much clairelove and everyone else that has added a post will try her now and will get the warm water bottle xx

It can take a few hours (up to day) for mum's milk to flow. The babies are provided to cope with that. Please weigh them tomorrow and then daily. they should start putting on weight from the 2-3 day of their life. By weighing them, you can check their food intake (about 5g more every day) and see whether mum really has got enough and rich enough milk. Check tomorrow whether both nipples are working.

Please do NOT syringe any fluid - you can kill a baby that way!

The best thing you can do right now is putting mum and pups into a warm, confined space so that mum can concentrate on the pups and have her maternal instincts stimulated. It usually works well!

Personally, I would bring them into a coolish (similar temperatureto where they have been) then slowly warmer place in the house rather than leaving them outdoors in this cold weather. The pups are not provided for temperatures like that and may struggle. They need to be protected well during the first weeks of their life.

If the pups have not improved by tomorrow, see a vet. Some babies take a bit of time to get going. Have mum checked as well!

Awwww try to keep it together, mum will know if she needs to save them, from what i have read on here, they have an incredible instict for knowing these things.

I really feel for you, i too would be in pieces, just try to remember what will be will be, if its not their time and all that.

((hugs)) x>>

Some mums can panic at first and have no idea what to do with the pups. putting them closely together does really help.

There could be something wrong with the two weak ones and their chances of making it may be small - babies can be rejected by piggy mums. The clicking sound worries me, too; that doesn't sound good. Please have them seen by a vet as soon as you can tomorrow. Sadly, there is only so much you can do.

If you want to feed them tomorrow (if they are still not accepted), please try spoon feeding, little but often. You can either use full fat goats milk or mushed up hay based pellets/Critical Care.

Here are the tips for hand feeding pups again:

try to get some sleep if you can hon, fate is a great thing for a reason. Remember this is about mummy and babies, and what will be will be.....

I will be thinking about you and your mummy, and her babies, i wish you all well throughout the night.

good luck xxxxxxx

Fingers crossed for the little ones, leave them to it overnight, mum may be spooked by being disturbed. You can only do so much and at the moment it's not a lot I'm afraid. See the vet in the morning x
