Tyrone is going for his neuter op on Wednesday.
I was going to take him to the vets I use for my dog then I joined this site and found a guinea pig friendly one on your vet locator.
The vet is double the price of the one I normally use but so worth the extra money. I just called them about what he can and can't eat eat before the op.
The veterinary nurse was a piggie mummy too and explained everthing in great depth and was so reassuring.
I feel confident Tyrone is going to be in very safe hands.

Thank you x x

Fingers very firmly crossed for Tyrone. Ideally he should behave as if nothing untoward had happened.

Here is a video of my Nye on the same evening after the operation.

These are our post-op care tips that tell you in detail what to look out for and what you can do if things don't run as smoothly as expected. Your prompt good care is the other side of the equation and can often make the difference, so it is good to be prepared, just in case:

aww bless he doesn't look at all bothered. Glad it all went well for him.

I read all the guides and hoping I am prepared. The vet said he could take a friend but he hasn't any at the moment not any that he can meet without bars.

You'll be please to know the nurse also told me about the 6 weeks unsafe period.

So excited for the 6 weeks to be up so he can meet the ladies and finally have companions again. x x

That is great - she really sounds well up to it! So many otherwise good vets are still not aware that accidents can happen as late as 5 week post-op. :(

Nosgan and Nye are bonded boars, but with free roaming on the floor where my sows live, so neutering was a must. Thankfully, I have access to a very experience guinea pig vet, which meant that Nye didn't need an antibiotic or routine post-op check-up. We are now two months on and still going without any sign of trouble whatsoever. ;)

All the best! Elective surgery is always the most nerve-wracking, but you are doing it to give Tyrone the happiest of lives and to hang onto him.

Hope all goes well, don't forget to pick up pain meds to give at home for after the operation however I am sure the vet will do this automatically. Sending lots of recovery vibes to Tyronee

It's a shame about boars only liking being a double act or husboars. I would love all mine to be able to have free time altogether.

Not letting Teddy or Charlie anywhere near the girls as dont want to risk breaking their bond.

Yes it's for his own good. He is stuck with me for my life no matter what he does.

Thank you. The vets sound on the ball so I am sure they will make sure I take Tyrone home as comfy as possible.
I hope he takes it all in his stride and is back to his usual grumpy self soon after...well maybe not as grumpy lol x x

Hi @Elisabeth , we discussed this vet when you brought the babies over and I am very glad you have opted to take Tyrone there. I have trusted him with both elective and illness / emergency surgery - he is very careful and thorough. They are very focused on post op pain relief which is a good thing. Good luck for Tyrone

Hi @lauraboara

Your recommendation totally swayed it for me and meeting your boys.
I didnt realise you lived so close to the vets either.
He should of had it done by now the vet said she will call me at 2 pm and let me know how is doing and if I can collect him. Fingers crossed it's all gone smoothly.
Then the 6 weeks countdown begins. I need to find something big enough for them all to live. That's the hard part. I think I will split my 4 four girls into pairs and let a pair of them decide who wants him x x

Tyrone's op went well. They syringe fed him after the op a few times but said he was more than enthusiastic about it and they were confident he would eat once back home. They were right, he got tucked into the hay straight away.
He is on pain meds twice a day and goes back for a follow up on Friday. The vet that did the op is on call tonight abd said to call her anytime if I had any concerns.
I can't believe the amazing care he has had. X x

So glad all has gone well. Hope Tyrone continues chomping through hay and veggies and soon is back to normal.
Thank you so much. I have put his favourite veggies in there too and left him with some peace and quiet so will check him every 30 mins or so. He loves his new fleecey hides and snuggle cups. X x

Really glad it has gone well and he is eating. I already knew it had gone well as I popped into the vet for meds this eve and asked after him. They were mystified as to how I knew about Tyrone's op....little do they realise the extent of the Guinea pig jungle drums!:D
Hope he keeps eating, the day after might be more sore than this evening as the big meds wear off but as he was healthy pre op, hopefully all will be fine.

Aww that is so sweet of you to ask thank you and I bet they were haha.

I am not at work until Monday now so will be keeping a close eye on him thìank you. X x

sounds like you have a very thorough vet. I had 3 of my boys neutered 10 days ago and all 3 are doing well, and healing well.ive placed them on fitch bedding,it is very soft and white so i can be alerted to any Blood stained oozing from wound,if it should arise ! good luck.

Tyrone has been for his check up this evening and they are really pleased with him. He goes back next Friday if no problems and should be discharged.
I'm a happy piggy mummy. X x
Great news for Tyrone and a relief for you. Just a few weeks to wait before he can pick his pair of ladies or rather they decide if they will tolerate him :)

Glad it is all going so smoothly Tyrone and for you! A good vet is really worth travelling further for!

Thank you. Well I made sure I went to a piggy friendly one not my own otherwise it might of been a different story.
Gosh 3 at once. Glad they are all doing well. I got Tyrone some white vetbeds and cut up some pieces of light coloured fleece that I could take out daily. X x

Yes thank you @lauraboara for sending me their way. He is still on his pain meds but eating more and more each day. He is pooing his normal amount and perhaps weeing more which can't be a bad thing. X x

vet bed is great to use.ive had nine piggies neutered by the same vet over the last 2 years, and ive not had any problems with any of them.I hope all goes well.It is a great site to see when they get bonded with some wives !

Definitely worth travelling for. Thank goodness for your vet locator.
I feel bad he looks a tad miserable but I know the end result will be more than worth it. X x

That's good. You must have a great vet too and you give good after care and TLC.
I'm so excited for him. A shopping spree is in order for next payday x x

I am devasted. Tyrone was doing so well. Even today he has been his usual self eating lots and chatting. During the night though he has been chewing at at the op site. ... a lot. Took him to the vets today and they have kept him in and he needs another op tomorrow. She couldn't tell which way the op was going to go but Mark the piggie expert vet is doing it with her so fingers crossed and a lot of prayers needed for tomorrow. Poor Tyrone I feel so bad for putting him through this x x

You have done everything possible to help our boy, and made sure he has had the best care from the start.
Sometimes these things happen, but fingers crossed the next op will sort the problem and no more complications.
Sending lots of healing vibes to you and Tyrone.

Thank you for your healing vibes. Just waiting on a call from the vets to let me know how he is doing. I feel so sad looking at his empty cage and not filling his veggie bowl this morning x x

I find the waiting and not knowing worse than even getting bad news.:(
