Red's Limping

Glad that infection has cleared up and hope the chelitis does too x

Good to hear the infection has cleared and you’ve seen the holy grail of popcorning. I have no idea about the tooth discolouration. I’ll tag @furryfriends (TEAS) as she is the dental expert.
Thank you. I had a feeling I'd read about the tooth discolouration somewhere, searched the Forum and couldn't find it. He's eating well and rushing about as usual so I shan't stress about it unless we get other symptoms. He's been through enough for a while.

I'm pleased Red is getting better.Reds diet seems excellent.some of my piggies are just bigger,I don't put my piggies on diets.i feed a tablespoon of pellets to each piggie.so feel its there normal heft....even if some have round bottoms !xx

Poor Red and you with all that going on, but I’m glad he seems to be doing well with all his meds, how funny he’s gained on the baytril!
No idea about the tooth staining either, very strange, hope you can find out what’s happening and it doesn’t affect him in any way bless his little cotton socks. Big 😘 to Red and hugs to you :) xx

Glad Red is better and popcorning :D

Regarding the tooth discolouration, when Kim Maddock diagnosed Squeaks with pulpitis, she pointed out that the affected incisors were discoloured, though it was difficult to see because Squeaks doesn't like having his gnashers looked at. It seems that it is one of the outward symptoms of that. Don't know if that is of any help to you?

This is what I was thinking, 2 vets have checked his teeth and said all is well. I'm sure I read somewhere it can be caused by high doses of ABs. He's eating well so I will just watch it for now. The vet cleaned a load of gunk out from around his top teeth last Monday, she thinks that is what caused the chellitis.

Squeaks has only ever had antibiotics once - when he saw the plum fairy - so his tooth issues won't be anything to do with high AB use. But then if Red is popcorning and maintaining his weight, it doesn't sound like he has the same as Squeaks. I hope Red's cheilitis goes away and stays away 🤞

Bill’s incisors we’re quite discoloured but after a can up and burr with Simon they were fairly white again. I think his just discoloured perhaps because they didn’t quite align properly. He never had AB’s at all so maybe Red’s is caused by AB’s
I heard that there are some AB’s that do discolour teeth and very high temperatures in small children can do the same?

Quick update in case it's of interest and hopefully the end of this thread.
I can't believe I started this thread in February! Poor Red he's been having problems for longer than I thought. We have been to the vets nearly every week with him since mid June, just one thing after another but I suspect mostly related. He's had digestion issues and had to be syringe fed/topped up most of this time. I thought all along his refusal to eat hay and pain at back end was down to a bladder stone, but what do I know? A very expensive xray (£388) found no stones or sludge but a catalogue of other problems. Last week he was having difficulty chewing so he saw the vet again! Teeth slightly overgrown, get him to eat more hay and he should avoid a dental!
On Monday he was very uncomfortable and crying in the evening, I gave him his arthritis painkillers early and stayed up with him, vets number by my side in case. I thought we were going to have to let him go. Suddenly he peed blood in two big patches, the light came back on in his eyes and he went to his hay box and started to eat hay. I couldn't find a stone but I'm convinced he passed one, he's been back to is old crazy self ever since. He is eating a ton of hay like nothing ever happened.

Wow, that’s amazing, it certainly looks like Red passed a stone or something 😊 Good he is eating hay now and back to his normal self, such good news x

Sorry to hear that Red has had so many health issues. I do hope that he is now on the road to a complete recovery. ❤️

So glad he felt so much better after that ordeal! Bless him handsome boy  With my RB Rupert’s second tiny stone it was same, but I knew he had it and was just waiting for him to pass it after a couple of weeks of him being very sore and on meds bless him (as Simon at C&R told me to, so small unlike his first whopper and emergency surgery!). Then a happy chap and didn’t have another thank god! Hope the same for gorgeous Red! 😘 xx
