Registering a name with BCC

Does anyone know if I 'have' to be a breeder to register an official name with the British Cavy council? Someone thought of a fab name for my collective of pigs. I know its £5 for life to register the name. I would like my pigs to have their own sir name as it were!
 
Have no idea, but why would you want to register your guinea pigs with them if you don't intend to breed? What would be the point?
Just curious and thought I would ask straight out ;D

I just really like the idea of my 'tribe' having an official name! Sad I know. Maybe I should just unofficially christen them, yes I have nothing better to be doing - well except the cleaning, the shopping, prezzie wrapping...... ::)
 
You can register your name even if you don't breed. The stud names are registered for exhibition purposes. At a show, you can only have your stud name written on your prize cards if it is registered. You can exhibit cavies without being a breeder. Most of the members on here have piggies as pets and could exhibit them in the pet classes at shows if they wanted to. They wouldn't have to breed at all.

I don't want to show either! I think I have just confirmed to myself that this Guinea Pig obsession has gone too far!

If it makes you hapy do it, do you get a little certificate or something?

If you do decide to register a name, bear in mind that the BCC stud register has over 600 registered stud names so you have to come up with a name that no one else has already registered. There are some weird and wonderful stud names registered lol.
