Adult Guinea Pig
I'm off on a rant...
Some 'Rescue' as they like to call themself has peed me off pow-pow
An old friend I used to work with and is also one of my Facebook friends saw I was Fostering Guinea pigs for a very good rescue. So she gets in touch to ask loads of questions as she was looking for a pair of girls.
So she did all her homework on them, kept mailing me with questions, bought a cage, toys, hay etc. Then last weekend she asked me if our Rescue (BARC) had any girls in for adoption. Anyway I told her our Rescue didnt have any girls in right now only boys. So I pointed to her in the direction of responsible rescues on here.
But unfortunatley she listened to her work friends who said there was a 'Rescue' in her home town of Sheffield. To be honest I had never heard of it. She mailed me on Monday to say they have brought back 2 boys from this particular rescue as they didnt really have any girls in. I looked the website up of said 'Rescue' and they had stated they rescue and breed Guinea pigs ! I told her that was a contradiction in terms of Rescuing in my book. Within the day she mailed me, She was a little worried as they seemed shy, and having a few squabbles over houses in the cage etc. I posted her the link from this forum on normal boar behaviour.
Anyway last night she mailed me said she has had the most terrible day ever and cant stop crying. The boys had a massive fight, she had to throw in a towel to seperate them, and she has taken them back to the 'Rescue'.
The bloke who runs this 'rescue' said to her he had put the 2 boys together only a few hours before she went to look at them and he thought they would be alright :{
Now I've had horrible nights sleep because the more I think about it the more it's making me angry, not only the fact of Recue and breeding going hand in hand but because he put 2 six month old boars together a few hours before she picked them up and he said they would be fine.
I had originally said to her that the pair of piggies she gets will already be bonded at the rescue. Little did I know about this one.
Now this has totally put her off having piggies. Our rescue (Barc) has just got a pair of sows in, but i suspect my friend will need time to decided if she wants to try again.
rant rant !
