rescued 2 boys!

i was at a farm last week and saw 2 guinea pigs in a tiny hutch, it was outside with no protection and on bare soil. i walked over and there was no bedding inside just bare rotten wood, the water bottle was bone dry ( this was during the heat wave in UK) and no food. the woman said that her daughter had lost intersest in them would we like them! well i didn't hesitate... these lads had NEVER had dried food...just carrots when they remembered to do it!!! :)>>>
well the next day i bought new hutch, rain cover, run, toys, excell blackcurrant nuggets, hay etc (nearly £400!) they cleared the big bowl of nuggets in 2 hours! they were really under weight and dehydrated. we have the giant bottle size and my 4 girls share a hutch and drink about an inch a day between them, these guys were drinking half the bottle ...a day! they had fleas too and we had to bath them.

i'm surprised they survived for so long!

well that was last week, they are doing really well and have put on weight. they are still drinking alot though. they eat anything you give them. we've called them Barney and jasper

Well done you for taking them on, words escape me for the previous people so i wont go there.

The little one on the right (jasper?) looks so skiny bless him, glad you have taken them on, poor little fella's, it would be a good idea to take them to the vets for a check over for teeth etc if they've never had dry food or hay and also anything else that you could innocently pass onto your girls.

Hello boys! Really, really glad you could get them out of those poor conditions. They sound very thirsty and hungry but good that they are putting on some weight.
Are they still showing signs of insect visitors eg mites - ie scratching a lot?
 
we sprayed them with some flea/mite spray for small animals and they don't appear to be scratching anymore. we did all the guineas too as a precaution. we're planning a vet trip for monday or tuesday. i should have done it sooner but i just wanted to love them and feed them. but they do seem happy now and not so nervous. they would run as soon as i approached but now they peek out of thier cabin watching me put food in!
 
How desperately sad that they were just left out after the child got bored. People can be horrible things! :(

At least they'll have a happy and healthy life now :) well done you :)

good on you for taking these boys. poor little mites being treated like that. our children will tell everyone that the cats, dogs, piggies etc are theirs but in all honest they are mine. i look after them - feed them, clean them out, walk the dogs etc etc. i have no idea how an adult can stand back and ignore these helpless creatures when a child gets fed upmalletheadmallethead you take them into your homes and should care for them no matter what. it makes me so madgrrrrgrrrr
 
Oh poor babies. I am so happy you have them now. Well done on rescuing them. I dread to think what would have happened. The owner should be fined.
 
Well done you! Poor poor boys, unfortunatly not the first story of neglect i know, i just wish it would be the last. :( :(

Thank you for taking them in. Why do parents buy them, and the kids get fed up? Makes me so mad. I hate this time of year as a pet owner once told me that start of 6 week holidays they sell lots of baby pigs, bunnies etc. for the kids school holidays. Bet they are fed up with them way before Christmas. (They sure have fallen on their paws...x)

Oh, I'm a few thousand miles away but I want to come out there and put some people in a hutch on the dirt in the heat and not give them any water. Thank you SO much for taking the piglets. I feel sorry for them both, but especially the skinny one on the right. When their heads look skinny you KNOW they are undernourished!
