Hi all,

I rescued a piggie today from poeple who didn't have time for him anymore. He's 6 yrs old apparently, is this quite old for a piggie?

this piggie was living with a bun, who was apparently humping him.

I've settled him in an indoor cage, and we've just got him out to have a look at him and his hip doesn't feel right. I was gently feeling both hips and the left one felt out of place, sort of protruding and I could almost fit my finger down the inside of the joint. (if that makes sense) He was squeaking when I touched his hip. His movement seems a little strange aswell, like he's compensating and putting more weight through his right side.

What do you think? Should I give him some Calpol? Does this warrant a vet visit tonight? I don't know how long he's had the injury.

Please help.....

Nicola

Hi,
i think you should take him to a vets ASAP - the rabbit could have broken his pelvis with the humping. Poor little piggy, well done on rescuing him.

Good luck!

I should take him to the vet now, or call the vet for advice, it would be very sad if he died from shock, :-\
keep us posted

awww poor elderly piggy yes 6 is a good age I lost purdey today and she was only 5 going on 6 and i considered her elderly, ppoor pig as already said the bun could have damaged his pelvis poor thing get him to the ASAP and give him pain relief let us know what happens please good luck

Thanks,

I phoned the emergency vet and they said if the piggie is eating, drinking, pooing and weeing then the injury would more likely be an older one. They suggested that if I was worried they would see him tonight, or take him to my own vets in the morning.

He seems fairly bright and he's eating veggies like he's never seen them before! Maybe he hasn't. >:(

My hubby will be home soon, so we'll decide what to do then.

Nicola

let us know how it goes poor thing, glad hes enjoying being spoilt some pigs never see a veggie in their life can you imagine :tickedoff:

Poor little old man i wish people didn't have them housed with rabbits, this is exactly what we've all heard before 98)
Well done, you've saved him from more harm. Good luck at the vets. Yes let us know how you go, get well little man we hope your leg will be OK :-* :-* :-*

Been to the vets this morning and the Bailey's hip's fine. Vet said probably an old orthopaedic injury but he's not concerned.

We'll probably be getting him a girlie soon :D
