After a hiatus of guinea pig ownership during my daughter's toddler years / other life events, I'm finally back in position to bring guinea pigs back into my life hooray!

In the past I did pet shops, then a rescue boy to pair with an older male, and now I'd like to continue the rescue theme - but there's so few near me! None within an hour radius based on the links in this forum.

We were in pets at home the other day and they had two sows in their "adoption" area - I presume these are old breeders? It makes me sad to think of it, but also wondered if bringing this type of piggy into a loving home is as beneficial?

The place I got my last rescue pig from has since closed :(

I'm in Widnes, UK

Welcome back to the forum

The way I see it, all piggies deserve a home!
We are a pro rescue forum but rescue isn’t an option for everyone.

As long as you were able to cope with any potential issues, then there is no reason not to adopt the two you have seen if you cannot find a rescue near you or cannot travel further afield

Welcome to the forum. Yes, please adopt the old ladies, I don't think P@H will hold onto them forever :( but I could be wrong 🤞

I don't know, but they are not compatible with the profit model 🙁 But I don't want to pressure you. I think most customers want young guinea pigs.
Yes my daughter wanted babies, and I was hoping to be able to adopt some from a rescue litter but hard to find them nearby. Lots of thinking to do, thank you

Hi, I've had adoption piggies from P@H before (approx 2 year old bonded sows, apparently given up for rehoming as their owners were moving abroad). They lived a long and happy life with us ❤️

Can you not go back to / phone Pets at Home to ask the history of these sows?
Then at least you know what's what to help you make a decision.

I’ve had piggies from the PAH adoption centre when I didn’t live near a Rescue.
2 were red eyed whites which no-one wanted.
The other was a runt and they had labelled him as having to live alone.
He enjoyed many years as a neutered husboar with my sows
