does anyone have a piggie that seems to breathe heavy and squeeky sometimes. my Belle sometime s has a runny nose and ive stopped putting hay in freely but done a manger instead and I'm wondering if it may be allergies. not sure when to involve the vet. shes eating and drinking well , popcorning and running round with the others ,shes not ill. any help pls, thanx

Yes I do but they have heart issues. It could be allergies but I think you need to see a vet to rule out anything else. When you say squeaking is it a hooting type noise? does she cough at all? How is her weight?

Have you noticed any difference since putting in the manger?

If she has a runny nose I would definitely get a vet to check her out. Piggies are notorious for hiding symptoms until they are really ill, so I'd get it looked at and treated if necessary. Guineas can have allergies, but it's more likely to be something like an air freshener, than the hay. Please let us know how you get on. x

Runny noses aren't normal and allergies not particularly common. Is the runny nose clear or a yellow/greeny colour? Any crackly breathing or wheezing?

yes she stopped sneezing after, her weight is chunky butt, lol she only coughs when she eats her muesli too fast , the noise is a bit like a stuffed up nose in people .but i will take her to vet just to be sure . but now i have another worry on my mind. tinka has been really awful to belle after a couple of weeks of introducing abby to the fold. tink seems to be very possessive of abby and juggerwoggers around her a lot.but now tink is charging poor belle and wont leave her be to do what she does, so ive done a seperate cage in house so belle can have some peace, shes sat with me at the mo while the others are on the floor, belles lack of interest in things and just sitting by herself is heartbreaking so i have her with me for a while, then i put tink in the other cage so abby and belle can mooch together for a while, i just want whats best for my babies and want them to be healthy and happy. tink and belle have been together since they were3 months old there were fights to establish hierarchy and then peace ever since, been together 3 years.with mavis and scruffy but they have since passed away mavis was 5 and scruffpops was 8, to say i was devastated is an understatement ans as i write i cry because i miss them so much.but my piggies have so much love here, do you think you could give me some advice please i would be so grateful. x

hiya yes I'm going to take her to my vet , its lovely to know people care about each other on here with a common goalxxxxxxx

What bedding do you house her on? How often does she have the squeaky noises? Does she live inside or out?

x.
shes indoors in a 6ft x 3ft cage in my living room that has an upstairs too for space for them. she sounds like we do when we have a stuffy nose and her bedding is triple dust extracted shavings and plush beds to kippy on if they choose to. fresh food every day, they have an outdoor hutch but only for warm days she may have caught a chill but she is going to the vet , many thanks x

hey there, when her nose runs sometimes its mainly clear but sometimes cracly noises I'm takin her to my vet tho shes havin a problem at the mo with one of my other piggies so I'm trying to fathom out whats going on and to act in their best interests but I'm worried i have to say, x

How's Belle? Xx
belle is havin a bit of a rough time at the moment with a cage mate but I'm taking her to the vet to get her checked out thank you for asking :) xx

Have you tried off the shavings? I have a sow who is profusely allergic to the stuff and coughs and sneezes constantly when she is on it. Worth a thought. You could change for a few weeks and see if there is a difference.

Sounds like she may have a chest infection or a cold.

I have a little piggy with a bit of a crusty nose too. It's not runny but looks like (the only way to put it) dried bogies, she doesn't sneeze. :( she eats and runs around ok as well. We weighed her recently and she hasn't lost any weight but she hasn't put on any either (her sister who is the same age put on 2 ounces) do you think it could be a similar thing?
We will be taking her to the vets during the week
