My lovely little Pig passed away this evening and i wish i could say he passed peacefully.
Pretty sure he had a URI - i noticed symptoms yesterday, emergency vet was out last night with antibiotics etc and called him out again tonight. The poor baby went downhill so quickly, it's heartbreaking to see them go like that. The vet thought i could bring him to surgery tomorrow as he was thinking it was a dental issue.
Pig was such a character. He couldn't abide cuddles without a few sprigs of parsley and loved licking my hands. He didn't mind the odd bath and was a great alarm clock for those mornings when his fruit didn't arrive on the dot. He was such a wee grump but i adored his cross little face, even when he was having a good chew on me or chattering at me, or the time he chased after me licking my toes!
As much as i loved both my piggies i don't think i would ever keep anymore. They are just so tricky to monitor and so much can go wrong. Vets aren't well equipped to help, even the 'specialist' vet gave me info that went against what i read here (i consider this site to be the Guinea pig wiki). I have much respect for the gp guardians on here - it really can be a full time job keeping them well looked after. Thanks to everyone who has helped me out as well.
Anyway, good luck to all you gp lovers!
