Rest Peacefully, my sweet Maple (12-6-16 - 1-3-20)

I meant to post this sooner, but it's just been so hard.

I posted in the health & illness forum about Maple last week - she had Gastric Stasis. Not sure what caused it, but we did everything we could, around the clock. There was no improvement.

She passed away Friday night at the vet, they went to put a tube down her throat to get the air out, but she was already declining so fast. I was so upset. I was surprised she even made it TO the vet, since in the car, I held her in my lap the whole way & I could tell she was struggling to make it. She held on though. I never left her side.

Her sister Maisie (they were inseparable) is upset, I can tell, but I put Maple's blanket in her cage with her, she has been sniffing it & laying on it/near it. <3 Giving her lots of cuddles.
Last week, I could tell Maisie knew Maple was sick - she wouldn't leave her side, & kept checking on her (nudging her chin, etc.).

Maple, you were such a special pig. You were so smart. So confident. You always protected Maisie & you took good care of her. You were so mischievous, you loved to chew everything, but you were such an amazing pig. I loved you so much. <3 Always & forever. You were my little 'groundhog' (her face reminded me of a groundhog). Maisie & I will be strong for you.

The vet is going to do a pawprint for me & they also sent me a rose. <3 So sweet.

Hi and what a beautiful tribute to youre very much loved piggie Maple.
The pain you feel is price we pay for loving these beautiful piggies. . I'n time that will mend but never leave.
You need to keep a close watch on maisie.
Piggies close ones will help another over the rainbow bridge and i think she be ok . . you both need each other.

Thank you so much everyone. Yeah I really did do everything I could. Her pawprint should be ready by the end of this week, I'm glad I am getting that too.

Maisie is hanging in there. She is getting lots of cuddles, playtime & she is still sniffing/laying on the blanket Maple had. I know she smells her, but it's comforting for her. I'm glad I had it so I could put it in there for her. I am keeping a watch on her though.♥
