Returning to the UK

Where are you returning from? There are a few countries atm that you don't have to quarantine now when you come back. Restrictions are slowly being lifted.
 
USA so the quarantine is still in place for us as far as I know, I don’t mind one bit I’m all for keeping people safe. Are places slowly opening back up?
 
You will be required to go into quarantine when you return home if the USA isn't on the list of "safe" countries then. Yes things are gradually opening back up.
 
Yes things are slowly reopening here, but I found that surprisingly few places that are now allowed to open actually have done so yet, and certainly in my area people arent exactly rushing out to shop! Most shops and pubs can reopen now, hair salons are open, public transport is running but with face masks and usually some attempt at reduced capacity and social distancing... most schools and unis are still closed but planning to reopen in september... and the government is offering money-off deals and tax cuts to try get people out shopping and going to restaurants and zoos and theme parks next month!
 
Thank you both - can always count on this forum to put my mind at ease :) was dreading coming home but now I’m just dreading the travel. If anything changes drastically could you please let me know so it isn’t a surprise :hug:

That’s a new development after weeks of mixed messages. So now face masks are compulsory in shops and on public transport. Most hairdressers require you to wear one, too, while their staff tend to wear visors.
It’s a mixed picture with close contact services (massage, beauty etc) with many now able to reopen but no facials or brows, lashes etc. Dentists are now open again. Gyms, pools and leisure centres are set to reopen on 25 July.
Pubs and restaurants are in the main (outside city centres) are open with social distancing rules in place. Most cafes are only open for take out in disposable wares. You can no longer use your reusable cups in places like Costa and Starbucks. Shops, supermarkets etc all have plastic screens up around the tills and cash is not accepted in many places.
The biggest difference is the amount of time everything takes tbh. Spontaneity is a thing of the past. You have to plan queuing time for almost everything. No more “popping to the shops” or “popping to the post office”. Due to numbers restrictions in the premises there’s always a queue outside popular shops/service and it’s become a feature of life over here. So make sure you always have an umbrella!

Thank you Betsy and Vicki for keeping me up to date! I’m glad dentists are reopening, I need my braces tightened ASAP after my 2 week quarantine, I’ve been with these ones for 6 months and they’re letting me know by coming loose and stabbing me every day :) we have a post office in our very small village across the road so hopefully ours isn’t manic, we have a village of older people that are apparently being sensible. Do you know if taxis are running? Will of course wear a face mask but we will need one coming home from the airport
 
Yes there are Taxis but not sure if there are as many as before. My old neighbour used to do airport runs as a taxi driver but since the start of the pandemic he doesn't anymore.

hoping to try blueline (think it’s a firm local to Barnsley? Not too sure) instead of the ones at the airport, the ones at the airport are incredibly expensive :yikes:

Airport taxis are always expensive. Perhaps you could ask a friend or family member back home to ring round and organise one for you, a few days before your return, so you don't have to wait ages for one to come.

Asked my parents to try and grab me one for the day we return, hopefully it all goes ok :)
