Hi

I have just noticed a small bald patch behind Dustins ear? I am worried it may be ring worm? Could it be anything else he may have caught it on something or possibly Rocky has bitten him as he is the more dominant one?

Guinea pigs naturally have a bald patch behind each ear. It is possible that is what you are seeing and that in fact there is nothing wrong with him.
If you look the other side you should see the same.

If the area is white, flaky skin, sore, then do see a vet as a possible fungal infection but I suspect this is just the normal bald patch

Hi thankyou for your reply.

It didn't look sore or flakey at all was just his skin underneath but the otherwise does have a bald patch as he has quite thick dark hair so it is only at one side?

If it is ring worm would he start to develop more bald patches? He is eating fine and seems well in himself but he is the least confident of the two (boars).

The normal bald patches behind the ears aren’t all that noticeable on any one of my four piggies either (and one of them is almost completely white).

If it was to be ringworm, then it will become white, flaky. It will spread to other areas of his body, it’ll spread to his cagemate and it’ll spread to you and your family.

If you are worried to see a vet

Hi and welcome

Please have a look through our guide links in this thread as to what is normal or not and how ringworm looks like (pictures at the end of the guide). As a handy tip - if something has the same shape on both sides of the body, it is most likely normal. The only exception is hormonal hair loss (ovarian cysts) on the sides of the belly in sows.
