after many weeks of debating weather or not to rehome my guinea pigs due to be becoming allergic, I went outside last night to top up the food etc to find bacon had passed away without warning :(
She had been jumping around the hutch like usual the day before when I went out to them, so I was really surprised to find her like this.
I had topped up the food and water like usual the day before, so I really don't know what it could be
The water bottle was empty when we found her but I had topped it up the day before so I doubt it could have been dehydration so quickly.
they also have a good supply of food throughout the day so I don't think she starved.
My other halfs wonders if something scared her and she had a heart attack.
I wish I had gone out earlier in the day as maybe she would still be here.
I feel like I have had nothing but stress since getting these guinea pigs and as I started to feel like we had got on top of everything, one of them dies :( I feel like the worse owner in the world right now

BIG HUGS!
I am very sorry for your loss. A sudden unexplained death is always very upsetting.

Please take a deep breath. It is nothing that you have done wrong. Guinea pigs can die from sudden fright, but heart attacks, strokes or sudden acute heart failure can happen out of the blue at any age and are sadly not all that uncommon, especially with the current indiscriminate mass breeding, whether that is for shops or by money making backyard breeders. :(

It is normal to feel like a failure or feel guilty when a piggy dies; it is part of the onset of the grieving process. Whenever a piggy either dies unexpectedly/without any clear sign or after a long drawn out battle for its health, this is usually more pronounced, as you have to deal with the shock, the inevitable soul searching AND the grieving.

Here are our tips on what you can do for the companion. If you don't feel able to continue once you have come to grips with it, please message me, and I will try to help you find a good solution.
