I'd just buried Heilin and written my tribute for her when Maelona wouldn't turn up for dinner although she'd been happily tucking into the usual afternoon serving of grass. I found her apathetic, unable to eat with laboured diaphragmic breathing and being cold to the touch in her tunnel- in short, she was dying right out of the blue; most likely from sudden acute heart failure or something causing her heart to suddenly fail.
Lona passed away in the early hours of this morning, not even 48 hours after Heilin. Maelona had just turned 3 years old . She was a healthy, chunky sow in the prime of her life. This was a true blindsiding shock.

I adopted Manon 'Queen' and her rescue born daughter Maelona 'Princess' via TEAS @furryfriends (TEAS) as companions for my newly bereaved Macsen 'The Greatest' (after the last Roman emperor on British soil, Maximus Magnus) in October 2021. The adoption wait took a little longer than planned because of an outbreak of mange mites which particularly affected young Maelona rather badly. They arrived with another young sow, Melangell.
The bonding took two attempts because Manon, who was rescued pregnant from truly horrible surroundings took a bit longer to settle down next to Macsen but they have been together since and have become firmly attached to each other.

Melangell moved out not all that long after to live with Brathlys and later with Llelo (her big love) and more recently with Heilin and Esme.

Lona was a timid baby tagging behind her mum who grew into a quiet and shy but friendly sow who loved her food and was always interested what was going on with the Tribe - especially with all the ginger and white lookalike piggies. The Cornish boys have made quite an impression on her and I was hoping that she would become a potential wife for Brangwyn at some future time.

Lona has spent all her life in her stable little family but she was a happy piggy in her quiet way.

Her send-off bouquet consists of salmon rose and pelargonium blooms, yellow cinquefoil and variegated euonymus leaves as well as white marjoram blooms to sympbolise her sweetness and the steady love that have been present throughout her life. Manon and Macsen are currently mourning her their baby and are rather withdrawn. I am sure that Heilin has been welcoming Lona at the Bridge; they are resting right next to each other.
