New Born Pup
Hi,
My sow of 6 years passed away this morning. She has been to the vets back and forth a lot in her life time, especially as she is an IC piggie and has had a lot of problems with her bladder in the past. She was on metacam and yurelieve (a cat medication for the bladder lining) every day. She was also on Thyronorm, as she had been losing weight and drinking water a lot recently, so the vets suspected a case of thyroid.
All of a sudden on Sunday afternoon I noticed she stopped eating. She was constantly sitting in a corner facing the wall and would not eat or drink anything. I called the vets up around 9 PM (out of hours) and they said that I could book an appointment in the morning. In the meantime, as I had ran out of my critical care, I blended up veggies and hay with water and syringe fed her, which the vet said was the best thing to do.
At the vet visit first thing yesterday morning, the vet said there weren't any tests they could do and her physical signs (no lumps, her rump area was clear) were normal. She said I would have to feed her critical care, pain relief and a gut stimulant and see if this would help her.
I honestly did everything i could to go around the clock to help her considering I am in my final year of A-Levels. But this morning as I was coming down the stairs (Around 7:50 AM) the first thing I saw was her having a seizure, and she shortly died after that. It was the most traumatic thing I have ever experienced. She was my best friend for 6 years and I honestly will never find the same bond with another guinea pig again. I can't imagine life without her.
I have three other guinea pigs but they literally run away whenever I come near the cage, whereas squiggles would run up to me and cuddle with me everyday. I need to work on my bond with the other three now for sure.
RIP squiggles, you will be missed <3
