Hey so i keep my 2 piggies indoors in my bedroom in their big cage. However it’s getting to a point where the smell is really bad. I clean them daily but there is always that smell of hay in my room. I keep my window open but just wondering if anyone has any remedies of how to keep your room smelling fresh while having piggies😊

I tried different kinds of hay and found that bluegrass hay I don’t mind the smell of and the piggies love. Also I am less allergic to it than Timothy hay. My mom still says my house smells like a barn though! We have two dogs, 5 piggies, and two small kids so I figure it will have some sort of smell anyways lol!

I love the smell of hay and of piggies, but maybe a change of floor substrate might help? We switched from woodshavings to kaytee clean and cozy which doesnt smell so quickly... except when it does smell its sort of like rotting bananas!
There are lots of different floor substrates- carefresh, fitch, hemp, fleece with puppy pads... and I think Kaytee do some scented ones though I'm not sure what the piggies would say about that...which might help with the smell, but hay and piggies do just naturally smell of themselves and the piggies like it that way!

I have indoor piggies and the fresh hay is kept in their room.
It doesn’t smell bad at all. Fresh hay has a lovely smell.
Maybe you’ve had a bad lot?
That did happen to me once and I had to chuck s bagful away.

Fresh hay smells yummy but soiled hay smells bad, quickly. I always removed soiled hay from the litter tray everyday as when it gets urine soaked it smells pretty strong.

fresh hay usually doesn't smell bad. but if it isn't changed out regularly it can start to smell unpleasant. also, it might depend on what bedding you use. I use carefresh and fleece. the carefresh has a nice oder block, so as long as it is changed every couple of days, it doesn't smell bad. my guinea pig is litter box trained. so that helps keep everything smelling clean as well.
