My 2 year old guinea was diagnosed with cystitis this morning...she is obviously in pain when she wees judging by the high pitched sound of her wheeks..she arches her back & she leaves streaks of blood when she goes to the toilet.
The vet has given me a weeks worth of baytril & told me to take her back if
Shes still no better after that.
Rosie is still eating normally but I am wondering if ther is something I could give her for the pain..,shes sitting on a heat pad @ the moment.

Oh bless her that does sound painful. Did the vet not give you any Metacam? I would call them tomorrow and ask for some. Also if the Baytril doesn't help, Septrin is recommended for Cystitis and UTIs and so would be an option to discuss with your vet.

Over the counter cystitis remedy is good too, such as Canesten Oasis.

Diet can also be a factor, what veg do you feed and what dry food?

Poor girl! Please ask your vet for metacam, a painkiller and anti-inflammatory that can help bring down the pain and the initial infection. If the cystitis doesn't disappear (one weeks' worth of baytril is usually too short), please ask for septrin and a longer course. Septrin is not licensed for guinea pigs (only baytril is, unfortunately), so you may have to sign a form. if necessary, print out this page for your vet. Septrin is an oral UK version of the US bactrim recommended.

You can also help with flushing the bladder as much as possible by feeding mildly diuretic foods like dandelion and cucumber in the first 2-3 days. Give plenty of juicy greens!

She doesnt like the baytril one little bit..even mixed with ribena...when she sees me with the towel i use to swaddle her she starts wheeking then runs & hides!
She seems a little bit better today, eating more than she did yesterday so hopefully shes on the mend

Baytril is one of the most foul tasting things I have ever come across in my life! I made the mistake of licking a little bit of spillage off my finger once and it was TRULY horrible!

Gald to hear that it is working and she is better in herself.
