Hi guys I haven’t posted in awhile.

Anyways my Ruben is off to the vet tomorrow he is staying on for the day as one of his front bottom teeth has fallen out in the night and the other one looks like it is going to fallout any time. He has also lost some weight over the last few days we think this is because of his teeth,

He is eating as the this morning i sow him sitting with his 3 brothers eating breakfast and tonight he is sit with his 3 brothers eating again and he was pushing and stuff to get his spot etc so he is eating but just eating enough

He has always had strange teeth as he grinds his teeth together allot of the time he has done this from being a baby and he is always doing strange things with them like biting them etc I’m not surprised that he is going to the vets with his teeth

The vet said on the phone there think he will need his wobble tooth out and they’re going to check all the others as well. it will be his first time having any kind of operation and the first time I have to take any of my guinea pigs in to say for the day. I trust my vet as my cat had to have some teeth out and work in others and did a great job back in October

He has only ever been away from his brothers for half hour in the last 2 years 8months so that will be a little strange for him but he does like his own space as well

I just hope he goes ok tomorrow and that he gets over this and gets better

even my dad is werried about him he told him tooth ache is the worst type of pain to have

Hi Hannah, sorry to hear Ruben is having some dental trouble!

Do you know what caused the loss of his tooth, and the weakness of the remaining tooth? Does he bite the cage bars? How old is he?

A guinea pig cannot have tooth ache as we would understand it
How old is Ruben?
He will not need a general anaesthetic to have a loose tooth removed, often a loose tooth will fall out without any human help!

The most severe pain that a human can suffer is generally that of renal colic.

e dont know how it fall out and he dosent bite the bars(its his dad max who bies the bars and his teeth are fine he has the best set of teeeth of all my guinea pigs lol) he is 2 years 8 months

he survied the night dorping him off at vets this moring he has lost a bit more wight in the night aswell but he is busy eating his lettice this moring

Well sometime between 7.45am and 8.45am his other bottom tooth fall out he dose look funny with no bottom teeth

Aayways the vet is going to make his top 2 teeth staight as oneof longer the other and that will help his bottom teeth gorw back striaght

we have to phone up at 3pm to see how he is and if everything went ok my dad is picking him up at 4.30pm on his way home from work

I hope it all went well, good to hear it's simple enough to correct!

You will probably have to help him eat until his teeth grow in. He may do well with his veg cut into small cubes/diced, so he can pick them up easier and then chew it down as normal with his back teeth.

he got back at 5pm he was ot of the car before my dad was lol

He seems thing there have made his top 2 teeth a striaght so his bottom 2 will grow striaght hopfully. He ie eating his dill slowly he went running for his tea so thats a good sgin. i have cut his carrts up smaller for him i did this yestoday aswell. he is gaving cucmber for breakfast so that should be a bit easir to eat for him.

I will be keeping a good eye on his eating for awhile tho. he dose wont to eat hsi food tho so thats a good sgin

how long about will it take his teeth to gorw back?

When i putting him back in the cage he went in to the bedroom to see his 3 borthers and wasnt even borthered he was back or even that he had gone for the day that says how much there missed him lol

The vet did say he got lots of cuddles today etc

i will keep you all updated

me and my mum have got some carrot and caddge down him took him awhile to get used to it but once we got some in him he was asking for more and more and looking for more we have jsut spent 45min hand feeding him carrot cabbage and dry food. he has gone back in cage now as he need the toilet so looks like we will be hand feeding him for awhile he was enjoying his caddge and carrot tho so thats good where going to try him with some diffrent foods in the morning aswell

Well rubeans teeth grow back fine his lift tooth stopped gorwing when it met the top left tooth but the bottom right tooth didnt stop growing and grow a bit longer then the left tooth and overlapped the top right tooth.

Now half of his top right tooth have broken off.

Dose he need to go to the vets again to get the filed down again so there all staight?

Hi sweetie i'm sorry i'd not seen your post earlier :(
loves and wheeeks for little Rubeans xxxxxxxxxxxxx
Gosh i'd let the toofies settle down first, if you trim the long one down it means that he wont be able to grab his food so it makes it worse :{:(
If you can shred his food or grate some nice carrot and stuff? that will help him, and he should be able to still get up his pellets with one toofie but you might need to give him time by himself so he can manage a bit slower :)
Lovely to see you on xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
I hope all goes well xx>>>xx>>>xx>>>

so i dont need to take him to the vets?

all his 4 frount teeth are diffrent sizes his bottom lift one and his top lift one do nearly meet and.

his bottom right one is really long and his top right one is rather short now.

he did get some veg this moring. I am still cutting his veg up samll and putting them in a dish for him and i also just put the veg in his cage as normal aswell he dose live with his 3 borthers

I'm sorry to hear his teeth are still not quite right. Is he able to pick his food up with his front teeth at the moment? Could you perhaps post a picture of his teeth to give others a better idea of the differences in the lengths of his teeth?

Hannah as you know unless your vet is piggie savvy, and i mean really piggie savvy if they cut their front and bottom toofies (incisors) they can really stuff them up......it means they then have to grow back before they can grab the hay and pellets.......so if Rubeans is managing i'd let it go....BUT .........if he's in problem get a vet who knows what they're doing they don't need to be trimmed back to the gums that takes too long to grow back! I have been there love and it's not fun, you have to syringe feed and then you have problems with them grinding their toofies to keep them at the right length......
I'm sure a few of the other more experienced people will be on a bit later, see what they suggest, meanwhile let him have lots of food by himself and some grated and shredded food too like i suggested :)

i did see him eating out of his veg dish this moring he got some food and then went to sit in his little house which is what he noramlly dose is get some food and gose and sits in his house and eats and then comes back for more but i did see him chewing this moring.

Just had him in this moring and he seems very happy had his lip down and was busy talking etc.

i wont be able to get a picture as i wont be able to hold hos mouth open and take a picture at the sametime. as he will only let me open his mouth he wont let my mum open his mouth at all and my mum dosnet know how to use my carmma on my phone

the last time he had his top teeth trimed them the to make them the same lengh there only trimmed like 2mim off them there didnt trim them back to his gums for anything.

as i said in my last post i have seen him eating this morining. I do cut some veg up smaller then nomral and put them in a dish for him as well as putting the food in the cage as normal i have been doing this from then his bottom teeth fallout he wonts to eat his food in the cage with the others for the firstfew days he did eat his veg inside then adter that he was having none of it he would jsut sit there and not open his mouth. But as soon as i put the chopped up veg in the cage he went staight over to the dish and started eating it.

i dont wont to take him to the vet if he dosent need to go

all my other 10 guinea pigs have great teeth tho

Hannah i reckon it would be good to perhaps give him some extra time with you eating some hay, veggies and some pellets........just to be sure :)
Sometimes when they've broken off a tooth it's painful for them, they remember that........ so you might just have to encourage him a bit more, then he'll hopefully be back to normal again :)x)x)

i will do that if needed he is sleeping in the bedroom now with sammy

well he seems to be eating fine tonight we had all the 4 boys inside tonight while my dad was cleaning there cage and my mum tired hand feeding rubean some chopped up veg but he wasnt having any of it so i put the dish in the box with the boys and he got the food out him self.

in other words he wonts to get his food out of the dish himself

UPDATE

So some of rubeans Top Lift tooth broke off lol Which didnt borther him at all

But this last week i dont know what he being doing with his teeth on teusday his bottom teeth came togother and are both the same length and everything there jsut look perfect now lol. And by the time it got to thrusday his top teeth did the same aswell.

So all his 4 frount teeth look perfect now he must off been to the piggie dentist in the night lol.

His weight is now 1120g. When his bottom 2 teeth broke off he went down to 930g that was back in janureay.

He looks like a healthy guinea pig now
