Hello everyone, I'm a new piggie owner and in need of some advice. We have two boars, Tom and snowy, who are about 3 months old. They seem to be settling, although in the last 24 hours, Snowy has been prowling and making a low long vibrating, purring sound. From looking on here I assume this to be rumbling. Do I need to be concerned about the safety of our other piggie Tom? Whilst Snowy is making this noise Tom is jumping around, is this normal?

Any tips?

Also, they are kept outside and have a hutch which has a 'sleeping' side and 'living' side. Is plenty of hay in the sleeping side enough for them to be able to get their own space, or should I put some hidey things in their too? They have tunnels, balls, toilet rolls stuffed with hay and nibble sticks in the 'living' side.

Apologies for the long post. Just want to keep our boys happy and safe!

Rumbling is very normal for boars and nothing you need to worry about, especially not if the other one is popcorning! Rumblestrutting (rumbling while swaying the bum) is telling everypig and the world what a strapping lad he is! ;)

You may find our information threads at the top of the behaviour section helpful in learning more abut boar behaviour.

I've got a 5 month old guinea pig from BARC rescue a couple of weeks ago as a companion for my 3 year old who lost his cage mate. I keep hearing the newbie rumblestrutting and chasing the 3 year old. Although its a bit worrying I know from advice given on this forum it is normal. They do calm down as they get older.
