Hello Everyone,

Thank you for all your support in my early days as a Piggy Mummy! Day 5 and they are a little more confident everyday. I know which veg to feed them & which veg not to but how much would you suggest for a 12wk Piggy? I am concerned I am not feeding them enough? I feed them Veg twice a day, they eat everything. So far I have only offered then small amounts of carrot & Cabbage with a few Basil leaves.

Also.....The Run..How long should I leave my 12wk old piggys in the run for? It's mild today, the rain has stopped & they have 3 hiding places within the run. They have access to water, food, fresh hay & are in the shade. I was thinking an hour in the morning & an hour in the afternoon..But I'm just guessing. Thank you All SO, SO much.

Up to you how long to have them outside hun, somedays mine are out for a couple of hours and other days they are there for several hours. Just depends on what the weather is like and how much they are enjoying themselves :)
 
As long as they/you want to be out there. Subject to the warning about heat exhaustion and cats, dogs, foxes, birds of prey etc.
Increase the amount of food you give them until there is some left at the next feeding time then reduce the amount untill you find the right balance.

Unless it's going to be scorcher, I always "hand test" the ground before I put my indoors pigs outside - in warm weather all day, as it's the coolest place.

Have you got a firm cover for your run (cats, dogs and birds of prey)? You can always create shade with a sheet of mdf or old bath towels pegged over the top and sunny sides. During the hot weather, I kept the towels soaked. That helped together with frozen water bottles.

If you are not sure if it is too wet and cold, you can line a tray with a towel and hay and something to hide to give them a dry, warmer place to have a nap in. Put it a bit raised from the ground and shift it once, so they can get at the grass underneath. If ecessary, an hay filled upturned pigloo with a teatowel pegged over the top does the trick as well.

Big old parcel or cardboard boxes with holes in the top and a door in the bottom are also a good idea for hot days. The heat has room enough to rise to the top, leaving the lower bit cooler.
 
If you do put a sun-shade cover over the run make sure to move it as the sun moves round. Many pigs will deliberately sit out in the sun if given the chance, don't forget to put sun-block cream on their ears.
 
Hello Amber. I'm glad you started this thread because I only got my piggies in the autumn and I've been wondering about how long to have them out too. The first time they looked so scared that they were only there for about 15 minutes and since then I find I keep popping out every 10 minutes to make sure that they're Ok. Best wishes.
 
well i left my 1week old boys in ther run for like 6 hours thier frist there loved it and are 2 years old now

i did check on them loads tho
