I have just taken Mikey, our 4 year old neutered male to the vet as he had a huge lump under his chin.

It was in the wrong place for a tooth abscess so the vet wondered if it was a cyst. She aspirated it - much to Mike's indignation - and the fluid that came out ( sorry if this is a bit gross ) wasn't pus but it also wasn't clear, which is what you would expect from a cyst ( apparently). We looked at it on a slide and it was definitely a bit tacky

The vet thinks it may be a salivary mucocele - where saliva can collect outside of the gland. She has seen it in cats and dogs but not in a piggy.

Apparently, it may come back so we will monitor and may be have to keep having it drained.

I just wondered if anyone had experienced anything similar and , if so, how often it had to be dealt with?

Thanks

The only thing I can suggest would be a course of antibiotics to rule out any underlying infection and prevent it refilling on a bacterial basis. Sadly there isn't anything that can be done for stopping it reoccurring outwith this- I have seen a dog have the gland removed by a specialist but I can't remember the circumstances (was a good 6 years ago), but this was a last resort and don't think it would be something you'll need to pursue.

Hopefully you don't have any further problems!
