I was wondering if salt licks are safe for guinea pigs.... I heard they can cause kidney stones. I have one in Ginger and Snaps cage, and they lick it quite often.
Do you think it is safe for them?inbreeding

Ive never seen it talked about as safe by any reputable sorces (and like you, i have seen advice not to use them)

So i would say, better to be safe than sorry! They certainly dont NEED it, so probably best to take it out.

The only place for salt and mineral licks is in the bin.

They are certainly not good for guinea pigs and can cause imbalances in the blood; too much salt = high blood pressure as the body retains water to try to get the salt concentration back to it's right level therefore increasing the blood volume; too much calcium = bladder stones, crystals, sludge.
