salt wheel?

Hi

Salt wheels are unfortunately one of those things that pet shops sell but that guineas don't need - in the same way we don't need to lick a mineral block. If their diet is ok they should get everything they need from their food. I've had piggies that had licked them in the past, I used to give them to any pregnant sows just in case, but the others just ignore them!

What my piggies like best is cardboard tubes (either large ones they can run through, or toilet rolls) stuffed full of hay - or a paper bag stuffed full of hay. Pampered Piggies sell toys for pigs too, loofahs and stuff, that mine enjoy

My theory is that if you feed them properly the shouldn't need one which would explain why the aren't using it.

The only piggies I have ever seen use one consistantly is my dads. They are fed mix and very badly selective feed. I am trying to get them to leave the bits they don't eat in the bowl and just top it up to encourage them to eat better.

One reason pelletts are so much better. Give me burgess any day.

I think salt licks can be dangerous as if the piggy gets hooked all that salt could lead to the piggy becoming de-hydrated, and possibly become quite ill so its probably best to leave it out of the cage, if the pig gets a nice varied diet then there is no need for extra mineral blocks or salt licks etc :)

I bought one of those for my piggies when I first got them but they paid absolutely no attention to it.

And, just like what has already been said, there is no need for it anway.
