After reading up on everyones experiences i have made a decision to have my boys neutered as some of you know the boys had started fighting so i had to seperate them and as the shed is freerange i had to house him and nigel in 2 seperate c&c cages which i feel is a little unfair, I shall in time have Nigel done as well but couldnt afford both at the same time.
His appointment is on Friday and though i know I'm making the right decision I'm still very anxious

I have some questions as well so if someone could help me with those as well please

As they live outside in the shed i shall be bring Sammy inside from Friday and keeping him inside i think for 48hrs do you think that is too soon not long enough or what ?

I have set up a c&c inside for him which i shall fill with an old duvet case and some towels is that ok? how often should i change it ?

Thanks folks

HIYA! harry was neutered because he didnt get along with males at all! and i had 2 females who adored him so it was definatly the right move they also live outside most of the year so i thought the same thing how long did i wait, harry was back to his old self around 5 days after even though the waiting time is 48 hours i wanted to be sure he could handle the cold and as he had a shaved belly i thought he might be chilly so i waited 5 days before he went out but i waited 3 weeks till he met the girlies and he moved in i think 3 weeks after as Maria didnt like him, erm if theres anythin about the op you wanna no let me no x

Thanks so much i tried to PM you but uyour inbox is full !

Did you bring your boy in the night before and give him a bath or just took him the following morning ?

I'm so nervous i know i will be wreck all day friday !

Hmm how often should you change it? well after my experience today i'd say every half hr ;)

No seriously, I didn't realise my boys weed so much until today, having towels in the cage the wee area is soaked, i'm putting a new towel down every 6 hrs, you just don't realise when you have normal bedding in, be it shavings, hay, megazorb etc. I'm wondering if having a bigger towel folded over several times would be better, or maybe go out tomorrow and buy about 20 face flannels for the wee area. :)

well thats one reason why i thought friday was the better day i dont work fridays and plus i can watch him all weekend!

i have some oldish sheets what i could use its just whether i have anough towels !

£1 shop i think tomorrow !

Also do you think the home made cage will be big enough ive done a 3x1 c&c for inside do you think its too big shall i shorten it to 2x1 till he moves about more I'm thinking of keeping him inside for about a week(much to my hubbys disgust ! especially when i said id give him the snip and let him live in the shed!)

well hes all ready and nearly time to go will keep you updated of his progress wish us luck

Good luck, he'll be fine and so will you! just try to keep busy ;)

Thanks Bev

Well hes there now he looked so scared when i kissed him good bye, My daughter got a little upset cos she couldnt come with me to drop him off have to wait till 2pm now to ring up and see how he is !

Yeay hes fine and content and i can collect him after 5

He has disolvable stitches which will disappear in around 5 weeks she said and i am to keep him off normal bedding for 48hrs but as i use vet bed she said i should be fine i have covered his bed in towels and put one of Emma's old baby blankets in his igloo (i have removed the roof cos i want to be able to see him and check on him without having to disturb him do you think thats ok ?

So pleased he has come round !

Thats great news! :D Have kept Badger on towels after all his ops - so easy to change and keep his cage nice and dry! Just keep an eye on him for the first 24 hours or so but I am sure he will be just fine! Bet you can't wait to go and collect him! x

Ooh 48 hrs? I wonder if I can put mine back on hay now then? So glad he's ok, big chunk of cucumber is in order I think :)

Thanks Bev i still wont be happy till hes home here though i was thinking of getting him a treat but dont know exactly what have lots of cauli and broccoli and some tomato

I would think you could put them back on hay at long as they are dry did your boys have disolvable stitches ?

No they have to be removed in 10 days, I tried them with a whole array of veggies when they came home, but cucumber was the only thing they ate, which was ok with me because at least they then also got water without needing to walk to the bottle :)

Badger wasn't allowed home until the day after his op cos it had been such a big one! Its the hardest wait we have ever had! He seemed so happy to be home! He did his mmm sound as we came in the front door!

Only two and half hours to go and you can fetch the little man and give him a great big kiss! :-*

Thanks so much guys ive been a wreck and have had to keep myself busy

Good idea about the cucumber may pop and get some on the way to fetch the kids

Sammy has the disolvable stitches so they shud disappear in about 5 weeks she said oh roll on 5pm ! ;) ;) ;)

SAMMYS HOME HIP HIP HOORAY !

Ah bless he seems fine to be honest and wolfed down a fair bit of cucumber so at i dont think there will be any problems food wise

Emma got upset when she saw they had shaved some of his belly but shes fine now

I'm so glad hes back !

He's doing really well, i was worried last night as i hadnt seen him poo but just before i went to bed he had done a few in the corner.

Ive held him this morning on my lap and he nuzzled like he usually does so i didnt hold him too long i could tell he felt sore but seems content this morning> Trying to leave him be but as hes in the kitchen and we are always in and out he aint really getting much peace !

He is fine i think he will be happier when he is back with the group !

One of his stitches has already come out and he looks clean enough some of his poo's are still a little soft but i think once hes back to normal he should be great

How are your boys Bev ?

Not too bright actually, i'm taking them both back to the vets tonight. They're off their food, lethargic and fluffed up, have had to try my hand at syringe feeding..... it was an experience! On my first attempt we both ended up wearing as much as he ate :)

Maybe they need some antibiotics, because they definately aren't themselves. :(
